MATTAWAMKEAG - Rowena G. Colby, 89, died April 12, 2007, at her home. She was born Dec. 18, 1917, in Caswell, the daughter of Omer John and Sephronia (Iott) Colby. Rowena and her late husband, Leon Colby, owned and operated Colby's Flying A Garage and Filling Station, Lincoln, for a number of years. She later worked for the school department, driving kids to school. Rowena enjoyed her children, grandchildren and many friends.

She is survived by one son, John Colby and his wife, Norma, of Mattawamkeag; one stepdaughter, Shirley Kocis and her husband, Gene, of Venice, Fla.; two sisters, Patricia Knott of Haynes City, Fla., and Hilda Pettengill of Slocum, R.I.; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by one son, Dana Leon Colby; one granddaughter and one great-grandson.

SAUGUS, Mass. -- Gertrude G. "Trudy" (Greenlaw) Colby, 91, died April 15, 2010, in Winchester Hospital after a short illness.

She was born in Oceanville, Maine, April 22, 1918, to Howard and Nettie H. (Haskell) Greenlaw.

She was educated in the Oceanville and Stoningham, Maine, school systems. She continued her education in Boston and later became a legal secretary.

In 1943, she married Elgin M. Colby and settled in Hillsborough, N.H., where they started their family. The couple shared 19 years together until Elgin's passing at the age of 51.

She was employed with Stone & Webster in Boston, Hillsboro Hosiery Mills in Hillsborough, Manchester Hosiery Mills of Manchester, N.H., and The New Hampshire Insurance Company. She later worked for the law firm Wyman, Bean, Tefft of Manchester, and the John Roy Legal Firm of Manchester.

Family members include daughter Sandra J. Colby.

IN HER LIFE: Trudy's working career lasted over 46 years until her retirement. Unable to sit still at home, she worked for the local AARP office locating jobs for members of the organization. Trudy was a longtime member of the Eastern Star, Portia Chapter, of Hillsborough.

In her spare time, Trudy enjoyed reading, working on her computer and computer games. She also loved working a good crossword puzzle, cooking and traveling. Some of her travels had taken her to Australia, England, Alaska, and the Panama Canal. She enjoyed her trip on the Princess Cruise Line's Polynesian and Hawaiian cruise and down to the Caribbean Islands.

She was preceded in death by her loving siblings, Arthur, Wyman, Selena, Basil and Harold Greenlaw.

SERVICES: Visitation and funeral were yesterday in the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St., Malden, Mass. Burial will be at a later date in the Maplewood Cemetery, Antrim, N.H.

She was buried in the Maplewood Cemtery at Antrim, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire

WISCASSET - Ada F. Colby, 90, died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003, at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta.

She was born on Westport Island, Oct. 4, 1912, a daughter of Robert T. and Mary Greenleaf.

She owned and operated Ada's Lunch on Route 1 in Wiscasset, moved to St. Petersburg, Fla., and worked for the police department, as a clerk for Web City Store in St. Petersburg and provided home healthcare.

She volunteered in the community of St. Petersburg and was a volunteer at Sunshine Center.

She enjoyed dancing, playing beano, playing dominos and spending time with her family.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Pauline Tome, who died in 1977, and a granddaughter, Cathy Colby, who died in 1975.

Survivors include a son, W. Clark Colby of Wiscasset; two sisters, Mary Jane Parker of Rochester, N.H., and Elizabeth Richardson of Westport; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held in Greenlawn Cemetery in Wiscasset in the spring.

Arrangements are by Mayo and Daigle Funeral Home, 40 Federal St., Wiscasset.
