Nathan Timothy HARDER was born on 7 NOV 1882 in Ridgetown, Kent County, Ontario, Canada. He was christened/baptized on 21 JAN 1883 in Ridgetown, Kent County, Ontario, Canada. The records from St. Michael Catholic Church in Ridgetown, Ontario indicate that Nathan Timothy Hardy was born to a Timothy Hardy and unnamed mother on Nov. 7, 1882 and baptised on Jan 21, 1883, with sponsors Thomas McNulty and Anna Fitzgibbon. This conflicts with the 1901 Census which indicates that the date of birth was Nov. 10, 1881. The 1901 Census indicates that he was employed as a laborer in Ridgetown at the age of 19, and earned $300 in 12 months of employment. - [Blair Barbeau 2002.FTW]

Tim HARDER. Parents: Nathan Timothy HARDER and Caroline SCHEIBER.

Timothy HARDER was born about 1853 in Howard, Kent County, Ontario, Canada. He died at Saskatchewan, Canada.
NOTES:
Census material indicates that Timothy Harder was born in Ontario, the parents were from the US, and that they were of English racial stock. Timothy is mentioned in the 1861 census and was of W. Methodist religion. By 1871 his father had died, and he took over the farm operation at the age of 18. In 1881 he is still unmarried, although his mother has remarried and once again been widowed. By 1891 he has married Mary Anne and they have had all of their children. He is not mentioned as head of the household in 1901 so must have moved to Saskatchewan to settle the available land.

Mary Anne Fitzgibbon is first mentioned in the 1891 census for Howard Township. She is listed as immigrating to Canada from Ireland in 1865, but that seems too early. She was Roman Catholic, and in the 1891 census she is the only one in the family of this religion. By 1901 the entire family is Roman Catholic, although Nathan was baptised as RC in 1882.

Timothy Harder operated the family farm up to 1881, but is listed as a carpenter in 1891. In 1901 his sons were working as employees, with Nathan at a trade for 12 months earning $300, and Martin in a factory or home for 12 months earning $265. Gertrude was going to school for 9 months of the last year.

The 1891 Census for Howard Township in Ontario, states that he was 38 years of age, meaning that he was born about 1853 in Ontario. He was employed at the time as a Carpenter. The birthplace of his father was Ontario, and his mother was the USA. In this census, he and his children are Methodist religion while his wife is Roman Catholic. By the time of the 1901 Census, he has presumably died since his wife is indicated as widowed, and his children are Roman Catholic, however, we know that he had not died but rather moved ahead to Saskatchewan.
