Herbert's obituary in the Amesbury News reads as follows:
"Herbert W. Mann, 69, of 3 Rocky Hill Road, for more than 50 years an employee of Hiram Lowell and Sons, and recognized as being one of the few remaining skilled boat builders in this community, died last evening at the Amesbury Hospital following a brief illness. He was born in Amesbury, the son of Abrahan C. and Sarah S. (Follart) Mann on June 11, 1868(correction:1878) and has been a life-long resident of this community. As a boy of 16 he entered the employ of Fred E. Lowell, founder of the historic boat-building concern at "The Point" and creator of the famous Lowell dory, the great-grandfather of Ralph P. Lowell, the present owner of the concern. Since that time, with only brief intervals for vacations and sickness, Mr. Mann had been at his work every day. Endowed with the same spirit which motivated the original Lowell, Mr. Mann was a stickler for perfection in all things, and no boat left his hands until it was finished in the exacting manner required. He was held in high regard not alone by those for whom he worked, but also by his associates. Over the years many of the present boat artisans gained schooling under his guidance. He was more than 50 years a member of the Point Shore Christian Church and active in all of the works of that institution. He was also a member of the N.E.O.P. of Newburyport. Besides his wife, Laura E. (Westlake) Mann he leaves two daughters, Mrs. Grace Deguio and Mr. Lillian Cronin, and one son, Warren H. Mann, all of Amesbury. A half-brother, Mr. William Merrill of Newburyport, and four grandchildren also survive." Funeral services were held from his home at 3 Rocky Hill Road.

Notes for HERBERT WARREN MANN:
Herbert was born at home on Green Street in Salisbury (now Amesbury). His father died when he was 7 and his mother remarried that same year. He began work at Lowell's Boat Shop in Amesbury at the age of 12 and continued there until his death in 1948. He met Laura who at that time lived on Elm Street in Salisbury when she was 16 and he was 18. He gave her a sign of his affection, a ring. He married her when she was 19. They rented a house across the street from Lowell's Boat shop at 456 Main street and in 1904 bought the house at 9 Evans Place, Amesbury from Sarah Ann Blaisdell widow of William Hacket Blaisdell. At that time the house was numbered 4 Evans Place The numbering was changed about 1920 - 21 The purchase price was $800. When his son, Warren, married in 1943, Warren purchased a home for Herbert and Laura at 3 Rocky Hill Road, Amesbury (Warren had established a poultry business at 9 Evans Place). Warren had 3 Rocky Hill Road completely renovated because Herbert had toiled so long and hard at 9 Evans Place. Herbert is buried with Laura in plot C41 at Salisbury Point Cemetery.
