NORTHFIELD ; Lori J. Colby, 46, of 43 Sargent St. in Northfield, died at her home, with her husband at her side, Friday, June 27, 2008 following a long illness.
She was born in Nashua March 8, 1962, daughter of the late Charles and Minnie (Collins) McPherson.
Lori lived in Northfield for over 20 years. She schooled in Henniker, Concord and Winnisquam Regional High School in Tilton. She later graduated Summa Cum Laude with her teaching degree from Plymouth State College in Plymouth.
Prior to her illness, Lori taught English for four years at Pembroke Academy in Pembroke. Over the years she held office management positions with various local businesses.

Lori and John celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary June 4th 2008.
Special to Lori was her family, including her numerous nieces and nephews, who were like her children. She was a friend to those wanting a friend.
Artistic, Lori loved photography and needlework. She enjoyed kayaking, hiking, reading, star gazing, sunbathing and playing with her many animals over the years.
Calling hours will be held Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the William F. Smart Sr. Memorial Home, Franklin-Tilton Road in Tilton. A celebration of Lori's life will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Memorial Home. Interment will be in Park Cemetery in Tilton at a later date, following the completion of the family crypt.

Captain James F. MCQUESTEN was born on 7 MAR 1835 in Litchfield, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire. He died on 19 SEP 1864 at Shenandoah Valley, Virginia.
James was a student at Derry Academy and graduated from the U. S. Military School at West Point, N. Y., May 1861. He entered the service of his country immediately as a lieutenant of the US cavalry; was afterwards captain, and assistant Adjt.-general on Gen. Merritt's staff, till he bravely met his death in Sheridan's great battle of the Shenandoah Valley. He excelled as a dispiplinarian, and was engaged in thirty or fourty battles. His ring, of which he was robbed on the battle-field after his death, was returned to his widow, at Washington, one year afterwards.

Captain James F. McQuesten was the third son of Henry and Eliza (Chase) McQueston, and was born in Litchfield March 7, 1836. During his boyhood he attended the district school in his native town, and was afterwards a student at the academy in Derry, where he prepared himself for the United States Military School at West Point, entering that institution as cadet in 1857. He graduated with honor in May 1861, as a second lieutenant of the Second United States Cavalry, and immediately entered the service at the outset of the War of rebellion. He was soon promoted to first lieutenant, and in February 1863, to a captaincy, and served on the staffs of Generals Buford, Fitz-John Porter, and McClellan. At the time of his death he was adjutant-general on General Merritt's staff. Captain McQuesten was present in more than thirty engagements, and was killed at the battle of Winchester, September 19, 1864.
Such was the brief but brilliant career of one of the noblest souls and bravest officers that fell during the late Civil War.
From youth he was fitted, both by nature and his own great energies, for a soldier. His physical development was faultless; his height was something more than six feet, with full chest and ruddy complexion. His presence was commanding, and his character unexceptionable.
Captain McQuesten married Miss Martha V. McQuesten, daughter of Edward and Harriet (Colby) McQuesten, September 23, 81863. The mortal remains of Captain McQuesten rest in the cemetery of his native town. His only legacy was his noble example od devotion and loyalty to his mother, his country and his friends.
