1760. A petition for a new parish was presented January 2, 1760 (Petition of sundry inhabitants of that part of Kingston in sd Province adjoining on Parish of Sandown") and THOMAS WELCH was one of the signers. This parish was first called Hawk, but is now Danville, south of Kingston; so his home was in that part of Kingston which is now Danville. On April 20, 1763, THOMAS WELCH of Hawk, yeoman, sold land and buildings in Hawk to John Challes, and from 1753 to 1767 THOMAS WELCH of Kingston and Hawk appear in eighteen court cases. Perhaps he was an innkeeper at Kingston.

In 1774 Thomas Welch established the first tavern in the town of Andover, NH. The first through travel was along the "Plymouth" or "Coos" road by the west bank of the Pemigewasset River, and here was the location of this first tavern. It was built of logs and located on the site of the Simonds house, on the River Rd., which has long since been destroyed by fire. 1
