Subject: [COMPTON] DNA Update

Optimal use of DNA results involves iterating toward the truth, dovetailing DNA results and genealogy documentation.  Each DNA test result provides concrete evidence, which narrows the search space leading to a common ancestral connection.   In South Carolina DNA results have uniquely identified five Compton/Crumpton families living within a hundred miles of each other in the 1700s and early 1800s.  Anyone with Compton ancestry in SC in this timeframe has a very strong likelihood of matching the DNA of one of these five.  Additionally there are unique Compton families DNA-identified in MD, MS, and VA.

This opens up a whole new and exciting Phase of DNA Compton genealogy research.  Any male Compton can obtain his 25-marker DNA results and be links up with one of these documented families.

South Carolina Compton/Crumpton Ancestors

Luke Crumpton and James M. Compton are related since DNA participants match (35/37), but they most likely do not have a common ancestor until the 1600s (9 generations).

Henry Crumpton, Thomas Compton, and Ralph Compton are loosely related to each other having (10/12), (9/12), and (8,12) results comparisons.  They are not likely to have common ancestral connections until before the 1500s.

These two groups of Compton families moved to SC and lived within 100 miles of each other.  All Compton/Crumptons, whose ancestors did not pass through SC, have results that differ from the SC DNA marker signatures.  It should be noted that the two SC groups have DNA signatures that are dramatically different from each other.

It can be concluded that any DNA match or near match to these SC lines, for a participant who does not have a documented ancestry, should look to the group of SC families that he matches for potential ancestry.  Currently, one participant in MS with documentation back to only the 1860s, matches with Luke Crumpton.  This is a 37/37 match!!  He should be looking seriously for a SC connection through Luke Crumpton.
