Hello folks,
Some of you already know this, but a few weeks back Bob Burgess who conducts the Laurens County South Carolina U.S.GenWeb site, graciously allowed me to put a list of all the Comptons I could find who served in the Confederate Army on this web page. This is listed under "Family Trees, History, Obituaries and Stories", then select the Compton choice. Use this URL to go straight there:
http://www.geocities.com/BourbonStreet/4492/convet.htm
You will find the soldier's name, and the unit in which he served. (This information is prerequisite to requesting a military and/or pension file from either the National Archives or the South Carolina Department of Archives and History).

Hi, my name is Jamie Joyce, and I am searching for my grandmothers past. Her name was Frances Clementine Compton Brewster. she was born in 1874, I don't know where. She died in 1947 in Anderson, S.C., and is buried at Good Hope Baptist Church. She married on 1-26-1887 to my grandfather Thomas Sheridan Brewster. She was 14 when she had her first child, Henry Milton, Leeroy C., Emma Nale, Allice Ella, Evie, Eva, Josiah or Josirah, Ezra, Edgar Elco, and my father Compton James Brewster. Do any of you recognize this elusive lady.? I would love to find out something about her and her past. No-one in my family seems to know anything about her. Thanks Jamie

"You need to carefully check the census of Amelia County Virginia around 1783 or 1785. I found a Micajah there. He is not in Virginia in 1810, that I could find, nor is he in SC in 1810. As I said before, Micajah suddenly appears in SC in the 1820 census and is there in 1830. He is not in 1840, but his widow Nancy and children are enumerated. I was NOT aware there were two Micajah's. (Jr and Sr). Be careful of this, Jr and Sr did not always mean father and son back then, I have been told."
