Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bruder of Ocqueoc have received a very fine letter from the captain in charge of the base hospital at Camp Custer where their son Alfred died of appendicitis some ten days ago.  The Captain speaks of him as a "man of sterling worth and faithful as a soldier".

Notes for Caroline Bruder:
For a time I lived next door to Caroline and Bill.  Sometimes she would come get me to help butcher chickens,  she always asked "want to pick or gut?" and always sent a chicken home with me.
I also helped her with some wall papering etc.,  when I walked in the door I never knew where I would find Caroline.  Sometimes on a chair which was on the kitchen table,  sometimes on a chair which was on the bed.  She seemed to have no fear no matter how unstable the things she chose to stand on.
