I am seeking information regarding John S. Hammond of Rhode Island, b, abt 1760 d, btw 1810 – 1817.   He married Hermione Brown of Massachusetts around 1794 probably in Newport, Rhode Island.  Records indicate their children born in Newport:
Issue:
Hermione Ann   b.11 Mar 1795
Clark Brown   b.1797
Elizabeth Harper   b.1801
Oliver
John Salisbury   b.27 Apr 1804
Hope Ann   b.1807
George W.  b. 1809

Hermione purchased land in Providence, Rhode Island during 1817 with no mentioned of John S. on deed.  She died August 1, 1823 in Providence and is buried in North Burial Ground in Providence along with many descendents.

Newport land records show the heirs of a John S. Hammond sold  property in 1812 but names of heirs are not same as above named children.

The 1790 will of Captain Elnathan Hammond of Newport mentions his grandson John Scott Hammond (son of John Arnold Hammond, dec).  Is this John Scott Hammond the John S. Hammond I’m looking for?

Hi                                                                                                                                  Jan 2, 2008
My grandmother, Lillie Mae Hammonds was born about 1897 either in Alabama or Texas. The earliest time I have found her was in the 1910 census. She and her sister, Mittie, were listed in the household of Fate Stevens, his wife and children along with John Stevens who was a brother to Fate. Lillie Mae was 13 at the time and John was 45. They were married  sometime probably around 1912. My Mother, Johnnie Ethell Stevens was born in 1914 and did not ever know who her grandparents were. MYSTERY; WHO WERE THE PARENTS OF LILLIE MAE HAMMONDS and why were they in the household of Fate Stevens in 1910???????  Lillie Mae  died about 1922 or 1923 not long after the birth of her last son, Bennie Leo. John Monroe Stevens died about 1941. They both are buried in the Caney Cemetery in Hunt County, Texas.  I would appreciate any info you have on these families.
Thanks

QUERY  August 28, 2006
I am looking for information on Charles C Hammond, my great-great-great-grandfather.  In the 1850 Federal census of Allegany County, New York, living in Scio with his wife Catherine and children Joseph, Lolly L, Cordelia and Lucy L.  His daughter Nancy had married Ed Manning previous to 1850 and they were also living in Allegany County.  I believe they joined the 1854 wagon train that left Oleans, New York because in 1860 in the Federal Census of Juneau County, Wisconsin, living in Wonewoc two married daughters and Joseph and his family are living very close to Charles and Catherine and Lucy.

Charles was born in 1804 in New York.  Catherine was born in 1801 in Homer, Cortland County, New York.  Their oldest daughter Nancy, born in 1828, was born in Homer.

Query January 20, 2005

Hi.  Just found your website.  Here is my query:  My great great great grandparents
were Franklin Hammond (b.2-8-1804 - d.6-17-1852)* and Elizabeth Phippenny (or Phippeny)
(b.1-10-1811 d. 2-26-1885) As far as I can tell, they lived in Onondaga County, NY, near
Pompey, NY. They were married on January 13, 1829, and had either 7 or possibly 8 children.

Amelia - born 5/6/1830
Amarcia - born 3/23/1833
Adelia - born 10/20/1836
Clestia - born 4-15-1838
Arriela - born 4-2-1840
Francelia - born 9-3-1842
Adelbert - born 4-3-1849
Chrisena (possibly Climena)- born 6-11-185?

I know there were a number of Hammond families in the area at the time, but I can not
seem to find the one direct link that would prove I am related to any of these other Hammond lines.

Can anyone be of assistance?

Our site at www.bucklinsociety.net specializes in establishing identies of

Richard,

I love your site. Wish I could connect with your line, but my HAMMONDS are living in Orion, Oakland Co., Michigan
from the 1840's through 1900. I have an Emeline HAMMOND-(b. April 1826-New Jersey) and married Nelson BEAMER-
(b.13 Feb 1817-New Jersey) on 25 May-1844 in Oakland Co., Michigan by Judge Axford. Their BEAMER children
(all born in Mich.) were the following:

Mary Ann                       1845
Amanda Louisa              1848
Lilly                               1850
Capitola Josephine          1858
Erastus T.                      1861
Horatio S.                       1862

I don't know who Emeline's parents & siblings are, even though there are many in the Oakland county area born
in New Jersey and
living in Oakland Co., Michigan in the same time period. Any help I could get from you or
anyone else that reads this would be
greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Richard -

I came across your work on the HAMMONDS, and since it referenced Michigan I got excited.
But I could not seem to tie in my small group of HAMMONDS to this work.  Thought I would drop my short
line to you to see if you have any recollection of HAMMONDS in Iosco County?

I have attached a short word document that details the little that I could find out.

In short, my certain records are that George Hammond married my great aunt Susanna Silverthorn
before 1910 in Iosco County, MI (Susanna is listed with her parents in 1900 and not in 1910 census in AuSable).
I know that they had two son's (Bernard and Earl).  I know that Susanna and George "disappeared" before the
1920 census when their two sons were listed with my great grandparents  (William Solon Silverthorn) in Harbor
Beach, Huron County, MI.  I know that both Bernard and Earl later lived in Flint Michigan.

Through working with the census data, I came up with the household of William HAMMOND and his son George
and since it was in the AuSable, Iosco Co., MI area and since George was the same age, it is purely by speculation
that I am tying my George Hammond to this family.

I know that I have more work to do in Flint to bring this family current, but I was hoping that you might have
record of this William Hammond family in Iosco County?

I have attached a simple descendency list to this email.

Thank you for any and all info that you can share with me on this family.  If nothing, I understand, then please add
me to your list of Michigan Hammond interest.

Kind Regards,   William Silverthorn    wds at pobox.com

Richard

I read your family history with much interest. It is well written and very enjoyable.

I have some Hammonds in my background as follows:

Benjamin Hammond, maybe born in New York State in or around 1820
Married Ana Marie Wheeler in New York State
They had two daughters while living in Wisconsin:  Clarrisa (born in 1853)
and Betsy (maybe 1855)
Benjamin was listed in the voting records in Jefferson County, Wisconsin for
the years of 1869 to 1882.
There also was a Samuel B. Hammond (born in 1824) who married a Harriet
Wenham residing in the same town of Hebron, Jefferson Cty, Wisconsin

I have never been able to find any info prior to the above or after the above
on the Hammonds and was wondering if any of this sounds familiar to you at
all.

I know that there were Hammond or Wheeler relatives in Michigan in the
l940's.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Richard,

I found your HAMMOND page and first want to thank you for all of your
hard work and for sharing it with the rest of us.

HAMMOND is a name on my paternal line and all I know about the HAMMONDS
is what I gleaned from a photocopy of a three pages of a book entitled
"History of Oakland county Michigan, A Narrative Account of its
Historical Progress, its People, and its  Principal  Interests",
complied under the editorial supervision of Thaddeus D. Seeley, and
published  by The Lewis Publishing Company, 1912.

This photocopy was sent to my by a volunteer lookup person in Michigan.

On page 853 of Volume I the book references my great grandfather,
Charles L. STUART, as follows:

"Mr. STUART, whose family has been known in Oakland county for over
three-quarters of a century, is a native son, having been born in a log
house in Brandon township, September 29, 1854, his parents being Ormal
G. and Minerva (HAMMOND) Stuart.  Ormal STUART was bor February 6, 1818
in Connecticut and came to Michigan as early as 1836, spending the rest
of his life in agricultural pursuits here and dying May 22, 1886.

His wife (Minerva HAMMOND STUART) was born in New York State, September
2,  1820, and died May 16, 1890, having been the mother of six children,
as follows: Ira J., who died 03 Feb 1849; Levi N. born 03 Mar 1846 and
died 31 Dec, 1848; Mary A., born 07 Jan 1849, now residing in Pontiac;
Ira Newell, born 07 Apr 1852, died 01 Sept 1855; Charles L., born 29
Sept 1854 and James Franklin, born 11 Apr 1858, and now living in
Pontiac.

Alas, your Minerva and mine are certainly not the same person, but if
you find that this might be of interest to other HAMMONDS, please feel
free to put this information on your query page.

Thank you again for your time and awesome efforts.

Hi Richard,

Just came across your Hammond page.  I'm researching the Hammond-LeBarre
family for a friend of mine in TX.  Octavia M. Hammond b. March 1875 in MI.,
but I can't find who her parents were.  She married Frederick H. LeBarre of
Canada, about 1891, and they lived in Reynolds Twp., Montcalm Co. MI. where
they raised a large family.

Their both buried in the Reynolds Cemetery in Montcalm County.  Frederick
died in 1947 and Octavia died in 1918.

Any information on them would be appreciated.

Thank you for your offer to post a query on your web site. Enclosed is the information desired:

I am missing some links in my maternal Grandfathers line of the Hammond family.

I would like information on Thomas S. Hammond born in 1862 in New York City. He married Bertha Kittle
and died in 1916. He lived in Hartsdale, NY for many years where he ran a general store.

I think that Thomas is linked to the following ancestors:
Colonel James Hammond (~1735-1800) known for leadership in the Battle of White Plains, NY during the
Revolutionary War.

William Hammond (~1695-~1750) who married Ester Storm and had two sons John and Thomas.

Finally, Ester Storm was the linked to Abraham Storm (~1665-~1720).

I would appreciate any information on these lost souls and how they might be linked.

Thank you,

Richard,

I would be grateful if you might post the following on your website:

Your website came up on a search for my ancestors Thomas Hammond and his daughter Mary, who wed
Abraham Peek in Albany, NY about 1788.  Mary was purportedly born in Rensselaer County or Oneida
County, New York.  Thomas died about 1813 in Oneida County, NY.

I suspect that the Thomas (b. July 11, 1723) listed as a twin son of William Hammond and Mary Whipple on
your website could be my Thomas.  At any rate, I would welcome any further information concerning the Oneida
County Hammonds from other Hammond researcers who find this page.  My email address is

Thank you.

Am seeking information about the 40 to 50 year old Jane Harris who was the

included no girls,  a boy under age 5, one boy age 5 to 10, one boy age 10

I am working on the theory that she might be the maternal grandmother who

Richard,

I am trying to locate William and Martha Hammond from AL.  Williams birth year is about 1811 and Martha's
is about 1815.  According to the records that I have located they were married in 1842 in AL.  They had a son,
James Leon Hammond.  I have started working on this for a gift for my great uncle who is 91 years young and
I would love to surprise him with this.  I am in North Louisiana, my daughter's generation is the sixth generation
in this area.  I have been able to track to AL and that is as far as I can get.  Any help you can provide will be
greatly appreciated.

Hi!
I am trying to find ancestors and seem to have come to a stumbling block.  My great grandmother was Sarah E.
Hammond, daughter of Gabriel Hammond and Mary E. (?).  Gabriel according to the 1880 census was born in
Maryland 1820 and I know he died in Meyesdale, PA and Mary E. was born in Maryland 1834.  My line then
goes down through the Everstine line.  Any possibility for a match somewhere?

Look forward to hearing from you!
