If anyone has corrections I will be glad to have them. Ruth Kiley provided many facts and dates. In an anniversary edition of the Advance, it stated that Immanuel Lutheran Church of Molke was founded in Grandpa Rieger's house and that services were conducted there for a short time. I believe my mother (Anna Rieger Peltz) said she was baptised at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Detroit. It is possible that aunt Augusta was too (Trinity is now a historical site). I toured there with a group a few years ago. We are not sure if Adolph was younger or older than my mother (Anna). Thanks to all who gave me information. The Presque Isle County Advance We have received a noble specimen of white Flint corn, grown on the farm of Mr. Stephan Rieger, in the township of Moltke. The corn stood 7 1/2 to 8 feet high. Some of the ears had twelve rows and ran about 12 inches in length. We shall be most delighted to receive the finest specimens of all kinds of produce, and will yet send some samples to the State Fair if our farmers will bring them along. Mr. Rieger says that this sample is not picked, and that he has better samples to forward. The Presque Isle County Advance, Sept 10, 1878
It may be
generally known but we believe it a fact that
Stephan Rieger of the township of Moltke, is one of the most extensive,
if not the greatest , pork raisers in Presque Isle
County. He has already fattened up for market 17 immense porkers,
with an average weight of 300 lbs each and making a total of 5,100 lbs
which at the price of 5 cents per pound will net him the snug
little sum of $225 for pork alone. Who says there's no money in
stock raising in Presque Isle County? The
Presque Isle County
Advance, November 20, 1890. Yesterday, at about 3 0'clock PM the three barns of Stephen Rieger, in the tiwnship of Moltke, were destroyed by fire with all their contents of hay, grain, wagons, sleighs, farm machinery, tooks, etc, etc. Hard and persistent work on the part of the firefighters saved Mr. Riegers handsome farm residence which was situated within 100 feet from the burning buildings. The origin of the fire is attributed to Mr. Dullack's steam threshing engine which a short time before passed Riegers place under a full head of steam and with the spark catcher of the smokestack wide open. Mr. Rieger estimates his lost of fully $1000 and $1500. The Rogers City Advance, Thursday Aug 31, 1899. I am a great-granddaughter of Frederick Rieger, brother to Hugo Rieger. The info I have is: Dear Rich Tuesday, June 28, 2005 Jakob Rieger's son Fredrick settled in Moltke Township. How two immigrants, Stephen and Jakob, with the same last name would settle in such a remote wilderness and not be related is hard to fathom. Jakob's son Hugo is my great grandfather. Hugo's son Albert Otto is my Grandfather. Albert Robert was my Father. I'm Albert Michael the youngest of six Rieger children. I just started researching my family tree a few months ago. I had to get a copy of my father's birth certificate to find out who his parents were. I did and then I got a copy of my grandparents marriage certificate. And that told me my great grandparents names. Then I tapped into other peoples research and found Jakob and his wife Caroline Mielke Rieger. But what I don't have is a living relative of Hugo's to tell me anything about my grandfather. He had at least 11 children. So any of their children may know something about their uncle Albert. I know he was a WW1 vet, a carpenter (cabinetmaker). I know he married a girl 20 yrs younger than him. I know that she had some sort of breakdown and their two children were given to other people to raise. One of them was my father. The other I know was born in 1922. So that person would be 83 yrs now. That is really what I want to know. Do I have a living Aunt or Uncle? If I do I would like to make some kind of contact before it's too late. So Rich thanks for listening. If you know anybody who could be any help to me. Please put them in touch. I live in Berkley, Michigan. 248 515-9369. If you know a course of action I should take please pass it on. Al Rieger arieger999 "at" comcast.net Al sent me the following photos.
