US Marine PFC Bennie Alston, Vietnam Veteran, Native of Edgecombe County, he was living in Charlotte at the time of his enlistment. He was 24 years old and was not married. Bennie died from an undetermined explosion. His body was recovered. His is the Son of Mr. & Mrs. James R Alston Sr. of Edgecombe Co. NC. He served with Hotel Company, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division, 3rd MAF. He was awarded The Combat Action Ribbon, The Bronze Star Medal, The Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal and The Good Conduct Medal. It was reported that Paul died from artillery fire. His body was recovered. He served with the 6924TH Security Squadron, "Tigers", 7th Air Force. He was awarded The Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal and The Good Conduct Medal.
