John married Nancy Creel 3 Feb 1820, Adair Co., KY. Nancy was born 29 Sep 1801, Green Co., KY; and died 29 Jan 1863, Adair Co., KY; she was also buried, Asper-Yates Burying Ground, Adair Co., KY.

Yates-Gupton-Henderson allied family photos
To set the stage for the coming pictures; William E. Gupton (1851-1889) was married to Polly Mildred Yates (1853-1932). The story is; Polly and William moved to Arkansas where their daughter Willie Gertrude Gupton (1889-1979) was born. Her brother Robert Ashby Gupton was born earlier in Feb. 10, 1884, making him 5 when Gertrude was born. William was killed sometime in 1889 in a logging accident and his burial location is not known at this time. After William's death Polly returned to Gradyville, Kentucky with baby Gertrude and Robert.
The pictures in this section are also from from the old Yates Family Album. Martha Rebecca Gupton is sister of William E. Gupton. Martha is the wife of Richard (Dick) Henderson. He served as a 2nd Lieutenant Company E, 13 KY Infantry during the Civil War.
The Album states by the picture "Aunt Puss and Uncle Dudley, sister of William Gupton, Sofia Phoebe Gupton".
On the back of the house picture it says "Polly Gupton's house" but next to the picture in the album it says OB (Otha Benjamin Estes) and Gertrude's house. So, OB and Gertrude must have lived with Polly. The US Census indicates that Gertrude's mother Polly Mildred Yates lived with them jointly between 1910-1932. In the house picture is a man that looks much like the picture of William Weeden Yates, the names of the women are unknown.
This picture is a school class in Gradyville, Kentucky the only person we know is Willie Gertrude nee Gupton Estes, she is standing 3rd in on the left side between a girl and another women in a hat. Gertrude taught when she was 16 and she only had an 8th grade education herself. Can you imagine that today and children coming to school without shoes, but hats seemed important by all of them resting on the ground!
