John S. Mix Died August 3rd 1877 at his home in Leavenworth, Indiana, John S. Mix, aged 83 years, 3 months and 16 days. He was born in Auburn, New York, May 15th, 1794 For nearly fifty years he has been a resident of our town, and was, perhaps, the oldest citizen of the place. He united with the Presbyterian Church, on profession of his faith in Christ, on the 3rd day of February 1875. The sincerity of his profession and evidence of his convection were shown by his love for the bible, and the testimony he gave of what God had done for his soul. During his last illness his mind was clear and strong, and he testified that "Jesus was with him in his affection." But two days before he died he said in answer to the question how he felt - that "he felt just like a Christian ought to feel." "If I could talk - my feelings are inexpressible." To his widow, there is much to give comfort in the last words of the deceased, - but a few more weary days of waiting and then through faith in his savior there may be a meeting never to sever, where trails and sorrows never come, in that land before the river.
