He joined Company E. 57th Indiana Infantry, and was sent to the front under General Thomas. Next, he was sent to Texas to guard the frontier. After the war, he farmed until 1873 when he moved to Iowa, then to Edgar County where he purchased 100 acres, and increased it to 113 acres. He cleared the land, put up an attractive and safe log house, barn, etc. He raised both grain and stock.

He lived with a neighbor until he was 19, worked by the month for a year, went to Illinois, and worked as a farm laborer for 2 years. He lost $800 (cause not given). In 1860 he rented 40 acres near the state line, formerly the James Bruce farm. Wooded land with a little log cabin without a roof, James put on the roof, cultivated the soil, and in 2 years purchased the land. He had a span of horses, 1 cow, and 16 shoats. In 1886 he was producing 3,600 bushels of wheat and other produce. His land ownership reached 600 acres.

The town of Sidell was named after Mr. Sidell. When Mrs. Sidell died, Mr. Sidell remarried, but the second wife soon died, leaving three small children. Sarah became their surrogate mother and when Mr. Sidell died in 1889, Sarah became the mistress of the Sidell mansion.

In 1841 at age 11, John left Ohio with his parents and went to Indiana. Apparently, John arrived in Edgar County in 1849, age 19, with a wife, $12, 2 horses, a cow and a calf. His father-in-law, Levi Mann, gave the young couple $500. Their property began with a log cabin in which the first three children were born, and in 1855 he built a frame house. This house was replaced in 1869, the brick home was a compliment to their 185 acres, plus 160 acres nearby. John gave each child $2,000. John's parents moved to Edgar County in 1860.

He worked for 16 years in the shop of Baltimore & Ohio Railroad. In 1874, Henry moved to Edgar County Illinois, Embarrass Township, and turned to farming and stock raising on his 153 acres.

He was involved in the mercantile trade from 1865 to 1873, when he moved to Paris, Illinois and purchased a large woolen mill. He operated the mill for 3 years until the plant burned to the ground in 1876. He served as Justice of the Peace for 8 years.

James owned 55 acres in Edgar Township, that were part of the homestead where he was born. At 8 or 9, he herded cattle in open country. In 1850, at 13, he traveled to Chicago with a team; in 1840, Chicago was a village without sidewalks. At 19, in 1856, he drove a lot of cattle to Minnesota, spending 42 days on the road. Then James went to Dakota for a winter of trapping and hunting which was profitable. He was considered one of the best shots in the country. In 1859 he purchased an 80 acre farm in Edgar Township for $23 per acre. In 1887 he purchased 80 adjoining acres, sold, and kept 55 acres. His barn burned in 1886.

Then brother Joseph purchased an interest, with Mr. Bond, Nathan's nephew, serving as general manager. A farmer, stock raiser, and merchant, Nathan formed "William Brothers, with son James A. serving as a partner.

Williams; Frank Williams. Thomas lived with his widowed mother until he was 19 and began working for his uncle, Thomas Hoopes, for 7 years. He took 100 sheep on foot from Ohio to Illinois, 400 miles in 30 days in 1853. He stayed with "Uncle Samuel Gilbert." He tended sheep for two years, then purchased 5 yoke of oxen and a breaking plow, allowing him to earn $100 per month in the summer. After various land purchases and sales, Thomas purchased the 500 acre Churchill Beardman farm in 1869. After he broke a leg in 1870, he moved to Hoopeston and operated 12 grain elevators with Allen T. Catherwood. He bought 1,525 acres in Indiana and made the first sugar cane experiment. Mother Sarah lived with Thomas.

John was the son of Asa Folger (second child in list above), and grandson of Matilda and Latham. Latham, a whaler, was captured by the British while whaling during the Revolutionary war; he would not consent to fight, was taken to a small rocky island, and left to starve to death. An American vessel soon came along and rescued him.

Wright, Charles A. Bio 731. b.1860. s/o Silas Wright. At age 23, Charles entered the Normal School at Danville, studying until his father died in 1886. In 1887, Charles purchased a car load of Texas ponies in San Antonio, and mules in St. Louis, sold at a profit. A young man, Charles owned a large farm, a printing office, and other property. James Whipple of Cayuga, Indiana, established the Sidell Journal, operated the paper for 14 weeks, sold the paper to Charles.

A log house on his first property was still standing in 1889, and occupied until 1865 when it was replaced by a modern dwelling. On his 54 acres in Ross Township, James raised stock, had 14 horses and used two teams on the farm that he operated alone. James was the brother of William Wyatt.

He assisted in grading the state road. He left home in 1850, age 24, paying $1.25 per acre for government land which he improved and put up a frame house. In 1874 he built an L-shaped house. In 1881 at age 60, he broke an ankle which hampered his work. William bred fancy Kentucky roadster horses on his 84 acres. He also had 40 acres of timber in Prairie Township. Brother of James Wyatt.
