Andre Melyn

Andre Melyn died November 9, 1606 at his home in the Rue des Sauciers (Saucier Straat), Antwerp.

Andre was first married July 29, 1576 Parish of St. Andrew, Antwerp, to Jeanne van Westvoort, the daughter of Eustache van Westvoort and Jeanne van Callen. Jeanne died about November 1596. He married second Marie Ghuedinx-Botens November 1597 Parish of St. Walburga.

The children from his first marriage who were still living at the time of his death were Lambert, Abraham, Jacques, Eustache, Pierrine, and Marie.  Others were Isaac, Cornelie, Susanne, and two daughters named Jossine. The children of his second marriage who were still living were Jean (Hans), Corneille, and Susanne. Another child, Anne, died an infant.  

Andre was a carpenter and a lumber dealer. He was at one time the president of the Guild of Carpenters.

On March 6, 1606, while ill and confined to his bed at his home in the Fosse-du-Borg (Borcht Gracht), Andre dictated his will. He chose his sepulchure in the Church of the Convent of the Dominicans at Antwerp. Marie died before he did, probably in October 1606.

Guardians of the children of the first marriage were paternal uncle Jacques Melyn, a tailor, and maternal uncle Eustache van Westvoort, a broker. The guardians of the children from the second marriage were the same paternal uncle Jacque Melyn and a maternal cousin Hans Solomons, a cooper.
