Christian Brookhart

Christian Brookhart
(Bruckhard/Bruckhart)

Christian Brookhart was born ca 1715 in (Bavaria) Prussia. He married Johanne Unknown. She was born about 1719. Christian might have been a wine maker.

Christian and Johanne might have been the parents of Julius Brookhart, died 1793 and John Michael Brookhart, born ca 1735.  John and Julius  purchased land together in Hellam Twp., York County, Pennsylvania, in 1763 (the third owners after William Penn). John died 1774. In 1778, Julius executed a deed to John's son Jacob Brookhart for 118 acres.  We believe Julius is our ancestor.

John Michael Brookhart was born ca 1735 in Bavaria, died 1774 York County, Pennsylvania. He married Barbara Unknown. Children of John Brookhart and Barbara Unknown, according to John's 1774 will, are: Jacob Brookhart married Catherine Keller, Phillip Brookhart, Michael Brookhart, John Brookhart married Magdalene Brubaker, and Magdalena Brookhart (wife of Abraham Flory). Jacob and Phillip moved their families to Kentucky ca 1803.

John Brookhart who married Magdalene Brubaker was born ca 1859 near Lisbon, York County, Pennsylvania. He had met Magdalene while working as a millwright for her father, John Brubaker, at Hammer Creek in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The Brubakers were Mennonites. John later purchased land in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, then moved to Hampshire County, Virginia. One day in December 1803, John was riding his horse to market in Cumberland, Maryland with several turkeys strapped on the horse in front of him. Something caused the turkeys to flap their wings, which frightened the horse and it threw John to the ground. He died as a result of injuries from the fall. John's in-laws took Magdalene and her eight children back to Mount Joy, Pennsylvania.
