Pos Annetje Peterson was the daughter of Lt. Pieter Wolphertse Van Kouwenhoven. Annetje married Anders Olofsson Stille, son of Olof Persson Stille, in May-1671.
      I came across this item in the Fall 1997 Swedish Colonial News. It has a Couwenhoven reference which may be of interest to you.

Deeds by Anders Stille, eldest son of Olof Stille, identify his wife as Annetje, the Dutch form of Anna. In testimony before the New Castle court, Anders stated that he had been familiar with the houses and streets of the town since 1658. In the 1671 English census of the Delaware, Anders was shown as residing in New Castle and married to the owner of his house, named Anna Peterson by the English census taker.

Who was Anna or Annetje "Peterson"? This has long stumped me. However, in working up a pending article on this 1671 census for future publication, I was struck by the fact that Wharton's cenuss was a door-to-door survey of each resident. Comparing his census with records of early patents and deeds disclosed, beyond question, that the house occupied by Anders Stille and his wife was owned by a Dutch brewer by the name of Pieter Wolfertsen van Couwenhoven, who was in prison at Manhattan in 1671 because he had defaulted on a mortgage of property in Elizabethtown, NJ, to Governor Philip Carteret of New Jersey. Pieter was not himself named in the census, perhaps to hide his identity from creditors. But, whatever the reason, the father's financial difficulties now tell us that his daughter, known as Annetje Pieters van Couwenhoven to the Dutch, was the wife of Anders Stille, the Swede. The house in New Castle was sold in 1672 and the Stille family moved to Christiana Bridge to live next door to Anders Stille's niece Elisabeth Petersdotter (Yocum), wife of the English soldier, John Ogle.

      Jacob Van Mater was born on 13-Feb-1779. He was born on 14-Feb-1779. He was the son of Benjamin Van Mater and Elizabeth Sarah Van Mater. Jacob Van Mater was baptized on 4-Apr-1779. Jacob married Abigail Van Mater, daughter of Capt. Cornelius Van Mater and Sarah Van Mater, on 22-Dec-1800. Jacob Van Mater died on 2-Dec-1876? At age 97.

      Lucy George was born on 23-Oct-1797 at England; Date calculated from gravestone. Born in England according to family tradition (Susie May Tunis Raff). But note 1850 census says she was born in NJ. Lucy married John C. Van Mater, son of Cyrenius Van Mater and Jacoba Covenhoven, on 27-Nov-1816 at Monmouth County, New Jersey; Beekman, p. 87: 'I do ot know who this last son married.' Lucy George died on 23-Jan-1861 at Monmouth County, New Jersey, at age 63. Lucy was buried after 23-Jan-1861 at Holmdel, Monmouth County, New Jersey; 'Dutch Reformed Church Yard 'On the right side of the road, between Annie Ogborne's Corners and Holmdel, on the crest of a hill, is the site of an abandoned Dutch Reformed Church. It is said the building which stood thereon was allowed to go to decay, when this body erected its place of worship in Middletown, in 1835. 'Among the stones are: 'John C. Van Mater, born Jan. 30, 1793l died Sept. 8, 1867. 'Lucy, his wife, died, Jan 23, 1861, aged 63, 3, 0.' Note: I found this church yard in the 1980's but was unable to locate these stones.       Elizabeth Van Mater was born in 1764. She was baptized on 20-Apr-1764. She was the daughter of Jacob Van Mater and Neeltje Hendrickson. Elizabeth Van Mater was born on 3-Jun-1766. Elizabeth married Daniel J. Polhemus, son of John Polhemus and Mary Van Mater, circa 1787. Elizabeth married Daniel J. Polhemus, son of John Polhemus and Mary Van Mater, circa 1794.
