Martin was buried at Huntingdon Memorial Gardens, McConnellstown, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania.
     

Martin L. Thompson, Sr., of Juniata Township, Huntingdon R.D.3 died at 7:15 p.m. Friday, December 2, 1966 in the J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital. He had been in failing health for ten years and a hospital patient since Saturday, November 26. Born July 5, 1903 in Juniata Township, Huntingdon County, he was a son of William and Laura (Crownover) Thompson. He married Martha E. Hearn on March 3, 1924 in Cumberland, Md. His wife survives along with three sons and one daughter: Martin L. Thompson, Jr., Huntingdon; Richard E. Thompson, Alexandria; Robert M. Thompson, Huntingdon; Mrs. Roy (Barbara Ann) Morningstar, Hesston R.D. and 12 grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother and two sisters: William Thompson, Huntingdon R.D.3; Mrs. Berley (Alma) Parks, Huntingdon R.D.3; and Mrs. Blanche Hearn, York. He was of the Protestant faith and had been a life member of hte NO. 2 Fire Company of Huntingdon. Employed by Owens-Corning Fiberglas Corporation of Huntingdon since 1943, he retired due to failing health in June, 1963. His entire life was spent in the Huntingdon area. Interment will be made in Huntingdon Memorial Gardens, Huntingdon R.D.1.

      Martha Elizabeth Hearn was born on 8-Jan-1907 at Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of Bert McHenry Hearn and Laura Krieger. Martha married Martin Luther Thompson, son of William B. Thompson and Laura Crownover, on 3-Mar-1924 at Cumberland, Allegany County, Maryland. Martha Elizabeth Hearn died on 27-Apr-2005 at James Creek, Pennsylvania, at age 98. Martha was buried at Huntingdon Memorial Gardens, McConnellstown, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania.
     

Martha Elizabeth (Hearn) Thompson

Retired in 1969 from the J.B. Kunz Co.

Martha Elizabeth (Hearn) Thompson, 98, of James Creek. R.R. 1, for the past four years, and formerly of DeForrest Apartments, Huntingdon, and Walker Township, Huntingdon. R.R. 3, died at 7:38 a.m. Wednesday, April 27, 2005, at the home of her daughter, Barbara, in James Creek. She had been in failing health for the past year.

Born Jan. 8, 1907, in Huntingdon, she was the daughter of the late Bert McHenry Hearn and Laura (Krieger) Hearn. She was united in marriage to Martin Luther Thompson March 3, 1924, in Cumberland, Md. Mr. Thompson preceded her in death Dec. 2, 1966.

She is survived by one daughter, Barbara A. Morningstar, and her husband, Roy F., of James Creek, R.R. 1, and one son, Robert M. Thompson, and his wife, Darlene (Douglas), of Huntingdon, R.R. 3. There are 16 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren. Two daughters-in-law survive, Beverly A. Thompson of Huntingdon, R.R. 3, and Marie Thompson of Harrisburg.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Martin L. Thompson Jr. in January 1995, and Richard E. Thompson in April 2001. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Andrew, three great-grandchildren and a niece, Evelyn Romine. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by three sisters: Emilie Johnston. Anna H. Baker and
Marguerite Bunn.

Mrs. Thompson was of the Protestant faith. She attended public school in Juniata Township, Huntingdon County. For 20 years, she worked in the bindery department of the J.B. Kunz Co., Huntingdon, retiring in December 1969. Prior to her employment at the J.B. Kunz Co., she worked for the Huntingdon Silk Mill.Mrs. Thompson was an avid reader, enjoyed word search puzzles and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 30, at the John B. Brown Funeral Home Inc., 417 Washington St., Huntingdon, with the Rev. James L. Blair officiating. Interment will be made in Huntingdon Memorial Gardens, Walker Township, Huntingdon, R.R. 1.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 7-9 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until the hour of the service Saturday.

Robert James CROWNOVER, retired roundhouse employe of the Pennsylvania railroad, died at his home, 331 Second avenue, Altoona, at 8 o'clock Wednesday morning, April 3, 1940, suffering from a heart ailment.

Born June 29, 1877, at Cornpropst Mills, Huntingdon county, he was the son of Ferguson and Martha (MURRAY) CROWNOVER. He was united in marriage with Matilda J. UTLEY.

Members of the family include his wife and four children: Austin E., Bruce F., and Miss Elizabeth CROWNOVER and Mrs. Esther M. PARSONS, all of Altoona; also by a brother, Thomas CROWNOVER, Huntingdon, and a sister, Mrs. Laura DEFORREST of Piney Ridge. Six grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be held at the Myers funeral home, Altoona, on Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o?clock.

      Robert A. Crownover was born on 28-Mar-1839 at Miller Twp., Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Hezekiah Covenhoven and Elizabeth Newman. Robert married Clara Myton, daughter of Samuel Myton, in 1881.
      ROBERT A. CROWNOVER, Manor Hill, Huntingdon county, Pa., was born in that part of Barree township now included in Miller township, March 28, 1839, a son of Hezekiah and Elizabeth (Newman) Crownover. Hezekiah Crownover was born in Huntingdon county, educated there, in subscription schools, and there learned the business in which he was all his life engaged; he was a miller. He owned 500 acres, or more, in Miller township, upon which he built a flour mill at the cost of $4,000, and made other improvements. Mr. Crownover was a Republican. He was married at Cromwells Mills, Huntingdon county, to Elizabeth Newman, of English descent. Their children are: Benjamin, deceased; Peter, deceased; Sarah, deceased; Elizabeth, deceased; Andrew, deceased; John, resides at Broad Top; George, farmer, of Armstrong county, Pa; Charles, of Saulsburg, Huntingdon county; Susan, widow of Rev. W. H. S. Keys, of Kansas; Ferguson, deceased; Hezekiah, merchant, of Huntingdon; Robert A; and two that died in early infancy. Late in life, Hezekiah Crownover retired from active business, and lived at leisure on the homestead, until his death, in April, 1861. He was a regular attendant of the Methodist Episcopal church, and was much esteemed and respected. Mrs. Crownover died at Saulsburg in 1878. Robert Crownover attended the common schools of his vicinity during
the three winter months that then constituted a term, and in the long intervals worked for his father in the mill. At eighteen years of age he left home, and first worked in another Huntingdon county mill, then
at the same business in Illinois, and after that in Indiana county, Pa. He then made a beginning in the hotel business in the borough of Indiana, Indiana county, where he spent two years. At the end of that
time he sold out, bought a hotel in Somerset county and carried it on for two years. He then removed to Pittsburg, and was in the same business there for a year. Returning to Somerset county, Mr. Crownover managed a flour mill for two years, and then removed to Manor Hill, Huntingdon county, where, in 1875, he engaged in business in partnership with his brother Andrew. Eight years later Robert
Crownover bought out Andrew's interest, and has ever since conducted the business, meeting with good success. He was appointed postmaster in 1875, and held the office for eleven years. Mr. Crownover has been the "architect of his own fortunes." He began life without capital, and has made his way in the face of difficulties and discouragements; among the latter was a loss by fire, heavy for a man just beginning in life; it took place in Somerset county, while Mr. Crownover was in Illinois, and involved a loss of $4,000. With enterprise and business ability as the best of his capital, he has brought himself and family into the possession of comfortable competence. His politics are Republican.

Robert Crownover was married in Barree township, in 1881, to Clara, daughter of Samuel Myton, farmer, of that township. Their children are: Lottie H; Howard A; and Anna B. Mrs. Crownover was born in Barree township, September 9, 1850. The family attend the Methodist Episcopal church.
