      Maria Scudder Woodhull was born on 20-Mar-1820. She was the daughter of Dr. John Tennent Woodhull M.D. and Ann Wikoff. Maria married Gilbert Combs, son of Elijah Combs and Rebecca Reid, on 12-Jul-1849. Maria Scudder Woodhull died on 2-Jun-1873 at age 53.

      Julia Woodhull was born on 25-Mar-1816. She was the daughter of Dr. John Tennent Woodhull M.D. and Ann Wikoff. Julia married Rev. James Clarke D.D. in Nov-1837. Julia Woodhull died on 16-Dec-1840 at age 24.

      Hannah Wikoff Woodhull was born on 24-Jan-1826. She was the daughter of Dr. John Tennent Woodhull M.D. and Ann Wikoff. Hannah Wikoff Woodhull died on 10-May-1891 at age 65.
     She was graduated at Mount Holyoke Seminary, Hampshire County, Massachusetts.

     Gilbert was buried at Oxford, Pennsylvania. He was born on 18-Feb-1827 at Manalapan, Monmouth County, New Jersey. He was the son of Dr. John Tennent Woodhull M.D. and Ann Wikoff. Gilbert married Elizabeth Waldo, daughter of William Besley Waldo and Jane Ann Bruce, on 14-May-1862 at Fishkill, Dutchess County, New York. Rev. Gilbert Tennent Woodhull D. D. died on 11-Feb-1898 at Lincoln University, Pennsylvania, at age 70.

     Addison married Emma Taylor. Dr. Addison Waddell Woodhull M.D. was born on 13-Aug-1831. He was the son of Dr. John Tennent Woodhull M.D. and Ann Wikoff.

      George Spofford Woodhull was born on 25-Dec-1814. He was the son of Dr. John Tennent Woodhull M.D. and Ann Wikoff. George married Caroline Mandeville Vroom, daughter of Guysbert Bogert Vroom and Catalina Delamater, on 4-Apr-1847.
     

WILLIAM WIKOFF WOODHULL, (Ph. D.), seventh generation from Richard Wodhull I., Patentee of Brookhaven, Long Island, was the third son of John Tennent Woodhull, M. D., and Ann Wikoff. He was born July 28, 1817.
He was prepared for college by tutors at his father's home at Manalapan, Monmouth County, New Jersey, and entered the College of New Jersey (now Princeton -University), at the age of thirteen, graduating at sixteen at the head of his class in 1833.

Richard Wodhull I., Patentee of Brookhaven, Long Island, was the second son of John Woodhull, M. D., and Ann Wikoff. He was born at the family homestead at Manalapan, four miles from Freehold, New Jersey, December 25, 1814.
In 1830 he entered Princeton College (now Princeton University), graduating with honor in 1833, after which he studied law with Rich­ard S. Field, at Princeton, New Jersey, and was admitted to the bar in 1839.
In the year 1842 he opened a law office in Freehold, New Jersey, where he practiced for several years, and in April, 1847, he was mar­ried to Caroline Mandeville Vroom, youngest child of Guysbert Bogert Vroom and Catalina Delamater, of New York City, and niece of the late Governor Peter D. Vroom, of New Jersey.
In 1850 he removed to May's Landing, New Jersey, where he be­came the Prosecuting Attorney of Atlantic County, and later held the same office for Cape May County.
He was an ardent Republican, and during this period he became a candidate for the State Senate on the Republican ticket. Though the district was strongly Democratic, he made such a vigorous canvass, that he reduced his opponent's majority to a very small figure. After his defeat he continued his efforts on behalf of his party, and a few years later, Atlantic County took its place in the Republican column, where it has remained ever since.

In 1862 he removed to Camden, New Jersey, and in 1866 was ap­pointed by Governor Marcus L. Ward, Justice of the Supreme Court of New Jersey.
During the first administration of President U. S. Grant, Judge Woodhull was tendered the office of Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, and although acceptance was Strongly urged upon him by the Vice-President, Schuyler Colfax, he declined the office, deeming the salary inadequate, without private means, for the suitable maintenance of a large family, in the City of Washington.
In 1873 Governor Joel Parker re-nominated him for another term of seven years, to succeed himself, the nomination being confirmed immediately by the Senate.
During the years that he sat on the bench, he presided at several very important criminal trials, two of which might be classed among the causes celebres of the State. In one of these he set aside the verdict of the jury, which was very rarely done in the criminal jurisprudence of New Jersey.
The late Rev. Kemper Bocock, of Philadelphia, a clergyman in the Episcopal Church, and assistant Editor of The Church Standard, was some years ago a newspaper reporter. He wrote thus of the Hon. George S. Woodhull in his judicial capacity:
" Tall men, suncrowned, who live above the fog, In public duty and in private thinking.'
"The above lines come into my mind as I try to recall the impres­sions received of Judge Woodhull by a young reporter who sat through the famous Hunter murder trial in Camden, N. J., nearly twenty-five years ago.
"lt was one of the most sensational crimes and one of the longest murder trials I have known of. The Court House was crowded daily, and at times it was not easy to preserve order.
"The friends of the accused, the army of morbid seekers for the gratification of maudlin sympathy with criminals, and the host of political rounders who gather about public office buildings made up a most motley assemblage.
"Richard S. Jenkins, Prosecutor of the Pleas, and his nephew, Wilson H. Jenkins, were pitted against Ex-Secretary of the Navy George M. Robeson, Aaron Thompson, and James Matlack Scovel.
"It was a battle of legal giants, determined to leave no stone unturned to gain a victory. Their debates became exciting at times. Mr. Robeson played on all the strings of the harp of pathos, while Richard Jenkins and James Scovel battled fiercely, as if fighting for their own lives. On one occasion the prisoner at the bar, moved to a frenzy of rage, sprang from his seat, shook his fist at the witness, and gave him the lie.
"In and over all this, Judge Woodhull presided like one who lived in a serene clime. There was no air of conscious superiority or boredom; but his calm, gentle voice, issuing a quiet order to the tipstaves, or ruling on a point as to which the contending counsel had almost seemed ready to come to blows, seemed invariably to introduce an element of dignity. It was not as though he took the side of the lawyer who carried the point, but rather as if the lawyer had taken the side of eternal justice, and the Judge was there to show the harmony of the issue with that principle 'whose seat is the bosom of God.'
"The lawyers might be fiery or scorching in their sarcasm, or stormy in their wrath with one another, but the Judge seemed an incarnation of peace and civilized order.
"When Hunter sprang up and called the witness a liar, Judge Woodhull's tone was rather that of a mother quieting an unruly child than that of a severe magistrate rebuking an offender. It was full of sympathy, and yet uncompromisingly firm, so that the incident lasted only a few seconds.
"I can see at this distance, across the years, that his spirit was suffering from the strain, but he gave no token of it. He never seemed to forget himself or let himself go for a minute.
"Even at the close of a long and exciting day, his order to the officers to keep the doors closed and the spectators in their seats till the prisoner had been removed was as naturally spoken as if he had been making an observation on the weather, and without the slightest trace of impatience at the daily necessity of repetition.
"I remember Judge Woodhull thus because I have not seen any­body else measure up to this rare standard of modest dignity, con­scientious justice, and unfailing courtesy in the years that have since gone."
In 1878 many of the legal fraternity urged upon Governor Mc­Clellan to re-nominate him for a third term, arguing that although a Republican he should retain the position which he had filled with such dignity and honor.
Notwithstanding this, nomination was awarded to Ex-Governor Parker, and Judge Woodhull resumed the practice of law with his eldest son, John Tennent Woodhull.
During his eminently useful life, he held the position of Elder in three churches, the Old Tennent Church near Freehold, New Jersey; the Presbyterian Church at May's Landing, the Rev. Allen H. Brown being his close friend and pastor; and the Second Presby­terian Church of Camden. New Jersey, the Rev. Louis C. Baker, also his warm friend and pastor. He also served as Sunday-school Super­intendent for some years in the latter church, and for one term was President of the Camden County Bible Society, in which he ever showed the deepest interest.
In him every good cause found an advocate, every down-trodden human being found a helpful friend.
Of his personal appearance one thus describes him:
"He was nearly six feet in height, gracefully formed, with large blue-grey sparkling eyes, erect of carriage and of a dignified easy manner."

He was the beloved companion and confidante of his children; a wise and loving counsellor to all who approached him. His strong manly character was most attractive; he was exceedingly fond of athletic sports, was a fine shot, an excellent swimmer, a prodigious walker, and a horseman of rare skill.
On March 4, 1881, after a brief illness, this strong man, with the heart of a child, having worn throughout his whole career, "the white flower of a. blameless life," "gave up his pure soul unto his Captain Christ under whose colors he had fought so long."
The following eulogy was pronounced by Mr. Eugene Troth, a member of the Camden Bar, after his death:
"Judge Woodhull had so much magnetism about him, he was such an accessible man, so companionable, so congenial, so kind-hearted, yet he preserved great and becoming dignity of mind and character. His nature had no barren side, it was made up of the pure, the good, the loving, the tender and true.
"The elements were so mixed in this man, that the adamant and the angles which made up the vigor of his manhood lost none of their strength because they were hidden beneath the flowers of chivalric grace and esthetic culture."
He sleeps with many of his name, in the peaceful graveyard of the Old Tennent Church near Freehold, Monmouth County, New Jersey.
From the funeral discourse by the Rev. Louis C. Baker (after­ward published as a memorial by the Camden Bar), is the following:
"In the 37th verse of the 37th Psalm it is written: 'Mark the perfect man and behold the upright; for the end of that man is peace.'
"After an intimate acquaintance for many years with Judge Woodhull, I do not hesitate to say that these words seem to me to be a truer description of him than any other man I have ever known.
"As I looked upon his face not long after death—he seemed to lie before me like an old knight, who had fallen in battle indeed, but who in falling, had won the greatest of all victories, the victory over self and the world.'
He left a widow, two daughters and four sons.

      Charles Frederick Woodhull was born on 4-Aug-1821. He was the son of Dr. John Tennent Woodhull M.D. and Ann Wikoff. Charles Frederick Woodhull died on 27-Feb-1890 at Lincoln University at age 68.
     He was graduated in 1842 at College of New Jersey now Princeton, Princeton, Mercer County, New Jersey.

     James married Julia Woodhull, daughter of Dr. John Tennent Woodhull M.D. and Ann Wikoff, in Nov-1837.
     Rev. James Clarke D.D. was graduated at University of Pennsylvana, Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania. He was graduated in 1832 at Princeton Theological Seminary, Princeton, Mercer County, New Jersey.

      Elizabeth Waldo was born on 3-Apr-1835 at Brooklyn, Kings County, New York. She was the daughter of William Besley Waldo and Jane Ann Bruce. Elizabeth married Rev. Gilbert Tennent Woodhull D. D., son of Dr. John Tennent Woodhull M.D. and Ann Wikoff, on 14-May-1862 at Fishkill, Dutchess County, New York. Elizabeth Waldo died in 1919. Elizabeth was buried at Mountain View Cemetery and Mausoleum, Alta Dena, Los Angeles County, California.
     She resided at at Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, in 1898.

     Emma married Dr. Addison Waddell Woodhull M.D., son of Dr. John Tennent Woodhull M.D. and Ann Wikoff.

     Caroline Mandeville Vroom was the daughter of Guysbert Bogert Vroom and Catalina Delamater. Caroline married George Spofford Woodhull, son of Dr. John Tennent Woodhull M.D. and Ann Wikoff, on 4-Apr-1847.

      Rev. John Woodhull Jr. was born on 26-Jan-1744. John married Sarah Spofford on 28-May-1772. Rev. John Woodhull Jr. died on 22-Nov-1824 at age 80.

      Sarah Spofford was born on 26-Oct-1749 at Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania. Sarah married Rev. John Woodhull Jr. on 28-May-1772. Sarah Spofford died on 14-Oct-1827 at age 77.
     

Sarah, only child of Captain George Spofford, of the Royal Navy, was step-daughter of the celebrated divine the Rev. Gilbert Tennent, D. D., first pastor of the Second Presbyterian Church of Philadelphia, as Captain Spofford's widow, became the third wife of Gilbert Tennent.

      Anna Matilda Woodhull was born on 24-Jul-1824. She was the daughter of Dr. Gilbert Smith Woodhull M.D. and Charlotte Wikoff. Anna Matilda Woodhull died on 31-Jul-1898 at age 74; not married.

      Charlotte Gilberta Woodhull was born on 3-Aug-1829. She was the daughter of Dr. Gilbert Smith Woodhull M.D. and Charlotte Wikoff.

     Henry married Azelia Girard. Dr. Henry William Beck Woodhull M.D. was born on 3-Oct-1819. He was the son of Dr. Gilbert Smith Woodhull M.D. and Charlotte Wikoff.

     Azelia married Dr. Henry William Beck Woodhull M.D., son of Dr. Gilbert Smith Woodhull M.D. and Charlotte Wikoff.

      John Correy Smith was born on 31-Oct-1784 at Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania. John married Matilda Wikoff, daughter of Col. William S. Wikoff and Hannah Scudder, on 16-Dec-1812. John Correy Smith died on 22-Jan-1845 at Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, at age 60.

      William Wikoff Woodhull was born on 24-Sep-1826. He was the son of Rev. William Henry Woodhull and Amanda Wikoff. William Wikoff Woodhull died on 30-Jun-1856 at age 29.

      Cornelia Neilson Woodhull was born on 26-Apr-1832. She was the daughter of Rev. William Henry Woodhull and Amanda Wikoff. Cornelia Neilson Woodhull died on 26-Jan-1835 at age 2.

      John Neilson Woodhull was born on 8-Apr-1830. He was the son of Rev. William Henry Woodhull and Amanda Wikoff. John Neilson Woodhull died on 24-Mar-1860 at age 29.

      Spafford Eugene Woodhull was born on 28-Mar-1828. He was the son of Rev. William Henry Woodhull and Amanda Wikoff. Spafford married Elizabeth Abrams, daughter of Simon Abrams, on 18-Jan-1853.
     Spafford Eugene Woodhull was also known as Spofford Eugene Woodhull.

      William Maxwell Evarts was born on 6-Feb-1818 at Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts. William married Helen Minerva Wardner. William Maxwell Evarts died on 28-Feb-1901 at New York City, New York County, New York, at age 83.
      EVARTS, William Maxwell, (grandson of Roger Sherman), a Senator from New York; born in Boston, Mass., February 6, 1818; attended the Boston Latin School and graduated from Yale College in 1837; studied at Harvard Law School; admitted to the bar in New York City in 1841 and practiced law; assistant United States district attorney 1849-1853; unsuccessful Republican candidate for the United States Senate in 1861; member of the State constitutional convention 1867-1868; appointed Attorney General of the United States by President Andrew Johnson 1868-1869; chief counsel for President Johnson in the impeachment proceedings in 1868; counsel for the United States before the tribunal of arbitration on the Alabama claims at Geneva, Switzerland, in 1872; counsel for President Rutherford Hayes, in behalf of the Republican Party, before the Electoral Commission in 1876; appointed Secretary of State of the United States by President Hayes 1877-1881; delegate to the International Monetary Conference at Paris 1881; elected as a Republican to the United States Senate and served from March 4, 1885, to March 3, 1891; chairman, Committee on the Library (Fiftieth and Fifty-first Congresses); retired from public life due to ill health; died in New York City, February 28, 1901; interment in Ascutney Cemetery, Windsor, Vt.

     Helen married William Maxwell Evarts.

      Cecil Conover was born on 8-Dec-1890 at Provo, Utah County, Utah. He was the son of Hanmer Jesse Conover and Viola Oleah Burdick. Cecil Conover died on 10-Jan-1891.

      Louise (Unknown) was born circa 1907 at Utah. Louise married Reid Golden Conover, son of Abraham Golden Conover Jr. and Elizabeth Juliette Lovelace, circa 1924.

      Cleo Clara Conover was born on 6-Feb-1913 at Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Utah. She was the daughter of Paul Linley Conover and Myrtle Irene Showell. Cleo married William Conrad Kamp on 15-Jun-1940. Cleo Clara Conover died on 23-Jan-1990 at age 76. Cleo was buried at Larkin Sunset Gardens, Sandy, Salt Lake County, Utah.
     She was also known as Lalia Conover.

Cleo Conover Kamp, ever loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, passed away on January 23, 1990, as a result of an automobile accident. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Born February 6, 1913 to Paul L. and Myrtle Showell Conover. Married William C. ''Bill'' Kamp on June 15, 1940. A lifetime resident of Salt Lake City and Holladay. She devoted her entire life to her loving husband and children. She loved to travel and spent many wonderful years enjoying the outdoors with her loving husband and family. Her courage during several years of fragile health provided all who knew her a tower of strength and an example never to be forgotten.

She is survived by her husband, William C. ''Bill'' Kamp; daughter, Mrs. Larry (Bonnie) Johnson; two sons, William P. and wife, Diane, Dan J. and wife, Joby; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; five sisters, Mrs. Gladys West, Mrs. Leo (Fern) Jacobson, Mrs. Marian Quist, Geraldine Conover, all of Salt Lake City; Mrs. Beulah Conover, South San Francisco; three brothers, Paul Conover and wife, Sharlene, Centerville; Don Conover and wife, Jessie, Peter Conover and wife, Erma, all Salt Lake City; many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Dora Anderson.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Memorial Estates Mortuary, 5850 South 900 East, where friends may call on Friday from 6-8 p.m. and on Saturday one hour prior to services.
Interment: Sunset Gardens of the Valley.

      Beulah Beatice Conover was born on 9-Mar-1918 at Utah. She was the daughter of Paul Linley Conover and Myrtle Irene Showell. Beulah Beatice Conover died on 6-Jan-1992 at South San Francisco, San Mateo, California, at age 73.
     In the census in 1930 Beulah Beatice Conover was named Builah Conover.

      Marian Hughrene Conover was born on 29-Dec-1920 at Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Utah. She was the daughter of Paul Linley Conover and Myrtle Irene Showell. Marian married John Henry Quist on 24-Aug-1940 at Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Utah. Marian Hughrene Conover died on 9-Jul-1992 at Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Utah, at age 71. Marian was buried at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Utah.

      Paul Lyle Conover was born on 7-Jul-1923 at Mill Creek, Murray, Salt Lake County, Utah. He was the son of Paul Linley Conover and Myrtle Irene Showell. Paul married Charleen E. Eckersell, daughter of Wilford Eckersell and Cora Berry, on 2-Aug-1947. Paul Lyle Conover died on 7-Jun-2006 at Kaysville, Davis County, Utah, at age 82. Paul was buried at Centerville City Cemetery, Centerville, Davis County, Utah.

      Donald Legrand Conover was born on 23-Oct-1927 at Salt Lake County, Utah. He was the son of Paul Linley Conover and Myrtle Irene Showell. Donald married Vera Alberta Warenski, daughter of George Keith Warenski and Elizabeth Eckersell, circa 1945. Donald Legrand Conover died on 22-Sep-1999 at Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Utah, at age 71. Donald was buried at Mountain View Memorial Estates Cemetery, Cottonwood Heights, Salt Lake County, Utah.

      Peter Wilson Conover was born on 11-Apr-1929 at Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Utah. He was the son of Paul Linley Conover and Myrtle Irene Showell. Peter Wilson Conover died on 27-Oct-2003 at Gunnison, Sanpete County, Utah, at age 74. Peter was buried at Sterling Cemetery, Sterling, Sanpete County, Utah.

      Francis Sedan Van Schaick was born on 7-Jul-1689 at Dutch Reformed Church, Brooklyn, Kings County, New York. Francis married Isabel Rhea. Francis Sedan Van Schaick died in 1754 at Monmouth City, New York.
      Francis came to Monmouth County, New Jersey between 1720 and 1722 from Oyster Bay, Long Island, New York. In 1722 he married into one of the most prominent Scotch Presbyterian families of Monmouth County. His wife was Isabel Rhea, daughter of Robert and Janet Rhea. It has been said that Francis took his religion seriously and that he joined with others in protest of the schisms of the Old Dutch Reform Church. It had become more interested in politics in an unseemly way than in religion. As a result he withdrew and was one of the founders of the Old Tennant Church at Freehold, New Jersey. Prior to the construction of the Old Tennant Church in 1734, Francis was a pew holder in the First Church of White Hill in Monmouth County. The records of the Old Tennant Church are incomplete, but they show the baptism of Elizabeth and Anne, daughters of Francis and Isabel. The influence of marrying into a family of Presbyterian Church members is reflected in the names of the nine children of Francis. Not one bears a Dutch name. In 1734 the Common Pleas Court appointed Francis the Overseer of Highways, Upper Freehold Township, Monmouth County. His brother in law, David Rhea, was the County Judge of Monmouth County. Francis engaged in a number of real estate transactions. The first farm owned by Francis was on the Matchaponix near where the Bloetgoets and Hegemans were living. By a conveyance dated November 13, 1734, Francis purchased from John Glendenon 80 acres of land lying near the Matchaponix River, bounded easterly and northeasterly by Pine Brook. Ten years later, he conveyed the same parcel of land to William Heaven of Shrewsbury. This land was conveyed without his wife Isabel, so it is assumed that she died before the date of the transaction, which was February 3, 1744. According to VS state History: Iden Van Schaick and his son, Franci s were btoh members of the queens County, New York Militia in 1715.
