He and his three brothers worked on the father's farm of four hundred acres during their youth, and he followed farming in Victor throughout his active life. In 1860 he planted an apple orchard that has made his farm one of the best fruit growing places of the town. In politics he was a Republican, in religion a Presbyterian. He died in Victor, October 10, 1908. He married, at Akron, Ohio, January 9, 1858, Elizabeth Tucker, who was born at Penn Yan, October 31, 1832, and survives her husband (1911). Children: 1. Theodore, mentioned elsewhere. 2. Nettie, born in 1862, died 1869. 3. Mabel, born July 12, 1894, married, September 23, 1902, Roy J. Provost. 4. Elizabeth, born April 15, 1876, resides with her mother at Victor. William Tucker, fattier of Mrs. Conover, was born in Plaistow, New Hampshire, and married Ruth Cameron, who was born in Akron, Ohio; children: George, a soldier in the civil war, died in 1900; Elisha, soldier in the civil war; Elizabeth, mentioned above; Junietta, married George H. Adams, now (1910) living in Canandaigua; child, Nellie Adams. The Tucker family moved to Yates county and afterward to Ohio.

Mrs. Elizabeth Conover, aged 82 years, died on New Year's Eve, at her home one and one-half miles east of Victor. Her husband John Conover died six years ago. She is survived by two daughters, Miss Elizabeth Conover and Mrs. Roy Provost [Mabel], and one son, Theodore.

      Theodore, son of John Conover, was born in Victor, November 22, 1858. He was educated in the district schools of his native town and at Canandaigua Academy and Rochester Business College. From 1888 to 1903 he was employed in a plaster mill, just outside the village of Victor, and since that he has been engaged in general farming in his native town. He has an excellent farm of one hundred and seventy acres. In politics he is a Republican. He married, September 20, 1881. Clara Mink, of Rochester, born in Illinois, August 10, 1857, daughter of Dr. Ezra and Mary (Proseus) Mink. Her father was born in 1830 at Rochester, New York, died March 25, 1889, a member of the Royal Society of Veterinary Surgeons of London; her mother was born in 1830 and died in 1859. Ezra Mink had also a daughter Zadie, born January 4, 1852, married George Hebbard, of Rochester, in 1880, and a daughter Lucy, born 1893, married Byron Greene, of Sodus, New York, in 1887. Mr. Greene died in 1889. A son, William H. Mink, was born in 1855, died in 1889, married Jennie Pettis and had a daughter Keltie. Peter David Proseus, father of Mrs. Mink, married Eliza Feller, of Red Hook, New York, and he died about 1862, his wife in 1870. Children of Mr. and Mrs. Conover: 1. Cassius married Sarah Alice Adams, daughter of Samuel Adams and Mary Calpurnia Medley, on 3-Oct-1882 at Carrolls, Cowlitz County, Washington. Cassius married Mrs. Florence Cochran in 1927. Cassius Cheselden Rulifson died in 1937.
      Moved to Iowa, Illinois, and finally on to Oregon. Traveled with his mother and father to the Isthmus of Panama, San Francisco, and on to OR on the ship Oriflamme. Told Mary Alice Rulifson about himself and another youngster having ten cents to spend in San Francisco on the dock. They each bought a pear; the fruit was so green they could not eat it. Mary Alice Rulifson thinks they boarder the Oriflamme on the west side of the Isthmus of Panama. Mary Alice Rulifson also believes that an uncle of Cassius Cheselden Rulifson [a brother of Bangs Penny Rulifson] and the uncle's family also came up to Portland on the Oriflamme; that the brothers disagreed seriously; and that the unknown brother went south to the Wilamette Valley. Mary Alice remembers that C C Rulifson raised Jersey cattle and draft horses on his ranch outside Carrolls Point, Washington. He leases horses to commercial fisherman who used them to haul in great seining nets from the Columbia River. With time the horses' hooves would become softened from the constant immersion in water. Her grandfater would then send the horses up to his ranch in Morrow County, Oregon, a few miles from the village of Ione. There the horses would work the wheat fields until their hooves were healed again. C C Rulifson owned a fairly large general store in Carrolls Point, Washington. The store stood partly on the shore and partly on pilings over the Columbia River. With the store there was a dock into the water; immediately in front of the store on the land ran the railroad. The river boats on their way to and from Portland stopped at the dock. Mary Alice remembers going to Portland on the Steamer Beaver. They also went by train, with the train from Seattle stopping to pick them up. Her father operated the store for his father; Uncle Dean frequently helped. C C Rulifson was known to his business associates and his friends as "Chet."
Newspaper Obituary, 2 Dec 1937 "Rulifson Rites Set for Monday" Funeral services for C. C. Rulifson, 5332 N. E. Tillamook street, who died at his home Thursday, will be held Monday at 11 a. m. at Holman & Lutz Colonial mortuary, N. E. 14th avenue and Sandy boulevard. Interment will be in Rose Valley cemetery at Kelso with Masonic services. Mr. Rulifson was born February 16, 1859, in Illinois. He came to Oregon by way of California in 1876, coming from San Francisco to Portland on the steamboat Oriflamme. In 1882 he married Sarah Alice Adams at Carrolls, Wash., where the couple lived for several years. While there he was prominent in political affairs, serving on the board of county commissioners of Cowlitz county. He was also a pioneer member of the Rulifson & McKenney mercantile firm. Following the death of his wife in 1921, he moved to Portland. In 1927 he married Mrs. Florence Cochran. He was a Mason for more than 50 years, joining in Kalama Wash. Besides his widow he leaves six children by his first marriage, Mrs. C. E. Welch, Corvallis; Grace Boehm, H. G. and R. E. Rulifson, Portland; Mrs. George L. Wolfe, Longview, and D. L.
