     He enlisted as a Seaman 2nd Class in the U. S. Navy in 1942. He served with various SeaBee units in the Pacific. He was wounded twice and received two purple hearts. He was also awared the bronze star. He was discharded in 1946 with the rank of Petty Officer 1st Class.
