Russell married Nancy Ryan Barbe, daughter of Joseph de Rocha Borba and Anna George. Russell Gilbert Barkalow died on 11-Jun-1970 at Pacific Grove, Monterey County, California, at age 76.
     He was a Brigadier General in the 87th Infantry Division. He was the Division Artillery Commander circa 1944. He retired from in 1951.

Col. Russell Gilbert Barkalow (USA ret) died yesterday at his home in Pacific Grove where he had lived for the past 12 years. He had been in failing health.
Born Dec. 7, 1893, in Waupkeneta, Ohio, he was a veteran of the Mexican border war and World Wars I and II. He retired in 1945.
He is surviived by two daughters, Mrs. Rae B. Painter of Brentwood and Mrs. Betty Jean DeWitt of Merced; four granchildren, and four great grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Paul Mortuary on Saturday and Sunday until 9 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Heart Fund, P.O. Box 300, Carmel or to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 1028, Monterey.
