Catherine Cox died on 3-Jul-1930 at Hutsonville Twp., Crawford County, Illinois, at age 68. Catherine was buried at Hutsonville Cemetery, Hutsonville, Crawford County, Illinois.
     She was also known as Katie Cox. Catherine Cox was born on April 5, 1862 and departed this life on July 3, 1930, being 68 years, 2 months and 28 days old. She was the daughter of William Morton and Emily Voorheis Cox. Catherine was the third child born in the family of nine children, namely Henry Tuttle, Kitchel M., Catherine, Alice, an infant son, Joel L., John Thomas, Laura and Arthur M. She spent her entire life in this neighborhood. At the age of 16 she united with the Hutsonville Baptist church under the pastorate of her uncle John L. Cox. She found great enjoyment in church attendance until afflictions made it impossible to attend. On the 27th day of October, 1885, she was united in marriage to Armstead Layton. They began house-keeping at the present home of Mike King. Later they removed to her
father's old homestead where she spent the balance of her life with her family of loved ones. To this union were born five children, Fern E., Edith E., Guy H., Charles A., and Arthur L. Fern preceeded her mother, departing this life on June 23, 1906.
Catherine was a most faithful companion and helpmate to her husband, a kind and a loving mother and grand mother, a friend and neighbor to all with whom she came in contact. She was a woman of sterling qualities of charachter and will be greatly missed not only in her own home but in the entire community. While hearts are sorely wounded at her passing there is a boon in submission to the ways of Providence and a lifting of hearts to Him who said, "I am the Resurrection and the Life." She leaves to mourn their loss a husband, a daughter, three sons, seven grandchildren, a sister, four brothers, and a host of other relatives and friends. "Strength and honor were her clothing. Her children arise up and call her blessed." Funeral service was held at the home Sunday afternoon, being conducted by Rev. I. C. Tedford. Interment in the Hutsonville Cemetery.

For more than fifty years Cornelius B. Conover has watched the progress of civilization in Iowa, bearing his share in the work of developing the resources of this great commonwealth, and a life of rightly directed endeavor has brought him the merited reward of honest labor - success and an honored name. He resides in Holstein and has long been numbered among the foremost agriculturists of this district. He was born October 28, 1853, in New Jersey, and his parents, Peter and Sarah (Burroughs) Conover, were also natives of that state, in which they resided for many years. To their union were born nine children: Elizabeth, Mary and Daniel, all of whom are deceased; Hannah, who is the widow of William Hendrickson, of New Jersey; Mrs. Harriet Bond, of New Jersey, also a widow; Sarah, whose husband was Charles Madena, of New Jersey, now deceased; Cornelius B; John, who still makes his home in his native state; and Clark, who has passed away.

Cornelius B. Conover was educated in the public schools of the Garden state and in 1873, when a young man of twenty, started for the west. In Benton
county, Iowa, he rented land which he operated for a year, and then went to Cheyenne, Wyoming, following the life of a cowboy for twelve months. On the
expiration of that period he returned to Benton county, resuming his agricultural activities, and a year later transferred the scene of his labors to Linn county, in which he spent three years. He next came to Ida county and in 1879 purchased a quarter section in Battle township, in which he established his home in the following year.

From time to time he has increased his holdings and now owns six hundred and eight acres, converting his place into one of the valuable farms of the township. He has acquired that expert knowledge of his occupation which results from years of practical experience, and his standards of farming are high.

While a resident of Linn county, Iowa, Mr. Conover married Miss Samantha A. Rogers, who passed away December 23, 1918. She was a daughter of Henry and Fanny (Bixler) Rogers, who migrated from Pennsylvania to Ohio and thence to Iowa. They made the journey in a covered wagon and were among the pioneer settlers of Linn county. Mr. and Mrs. Conover were the parents of four children: Clark Henry, who was born in Linn county October 9, 1879, and resides on the old homestead; Clifton E., whose birth occurred October 2, 1881; Claud D., who was born March 30, 1884; and Cornelius B., Jr., born December 8, 1887.

Mr. Conover is a Mason and endeavors to fulfill in his life its principles concerning mutual helpfulness and brotherly kindness. He has many friends in
the county and time has strengthened his hold upon their esteem.

      Samantha Rogers was born circa 1856 at Iowa. She was the daughter of Henry Rogers. Samantha married Cornelius Burroughs Conover, son of Peter Clark Conover and Sarah Fish Burroughs, on 14-Dec-1876. Samantha Rogers died on 23-Dec-1918.

      Mary W. Conover was born on 10-Apr-1841 at New Jersey. She was the daughter of Peter Clark Conover and Sarah Fish Burroughs. Mary married William Johnson on 9-Jan-1862 at Woodstown, Salem County, New Jersey.

      Hannah B. Conover was born on 10-Jan-1844 at New Jersey. She was the daughter of Peter Clark Conover and Sarah Fish Burroughs. Hannah married William G. Hendrickson on 1-Jan-1866. Hannah B. Conover died on 14-Jan-1929 at age 85.
