Color-Sergeant Allen Jobes was killed on the second day of the Battle of Jonesboro. He was bearing the stars and stripes while leading his regiment (Company D of the 69th O.V.S.) into battle when he was struck down. Since Allen was the first soldier from Darke County, Ohio killed in the American Civil War, the local GAR post was named in his memory. Allen was buried at Marietta National Cemetery, Marietta, Cobb County, Georgia.
