Mrs. H. C. Fike
_________

She was Distinguished for Her Zeal for the Betterment and Welfare of Others

The death of Mrs. Fike occurred Monday 10 minutes before 12 o’clock after an illness extending through several weeks.

Lucy Cimbaline Power was born near Trenton, Illinois, July 25, 1835. In addition to receiving a common school education of that day she attended the Female Seminary at Lebanon, Illinois, the same town in which is located McKendree College, the institution which H. C. Fike attended in his young manhood days.

Miss Lucy C. Power was married to Capt. Henry C. Fike on December 25, 1855, and to them were born two daughters, one of whom died in infancy; the other , Miss Ella, has always lived with her parents.
Mrs. Fike’s parents, Pennington and Elizabeth Power, were natives of Kentucky, and moved to the state of Illinois in an early day, where they brought up a large family, Mr. Power being a successful farmer and land owner.
Capt. Fike and family removed from Mascoutah, Ills., to Warrensburg, Mo, in January 1867, and consequently have resided in this city almost forty years.

Mrs. Fike joined the Methodist Episcopal Church during her girlhood, and remained a member of the same, until death on the 25th, inst. removed her from the church militant to the church triumphant. She always took an active interest in the various branches of work in the church of her choice. For many years she was teacher in the Sunday School, and has taken a lively interest in missionary work, the work of the Ladies Aid Society, and other benevolent organizations for the betterment and welfare of others. She has for years been a member of the Woman’s Relief Corps of the G. A. R., and a faithful member of the Eastern Star.

Mrs. Fike was known for the orderly arrangements of domestic affairs in her home life; and those best acquainted with her know that her life has been one of the quiet order, disliking anything bordering on display, chosing (sic) rather to perform her good works without publicity; and always manifesting a loyal spirit in every good cause her energies may have been enlisted.

Funeral services will be held at the Market Street M. E. Church on Wednesday afternoon 27th inst., conducted by Rev. B. F. Crissman of St. Joseph, Mo., a former pastor of this church.

It is expected the Order of Eastern Star will take a part in the services at the cemetery.

Mrs. Fike’s Funeral

The funeral of Mrs. Henry C. Fike occurred at the Market street Methodist church at 3 o’clock Wednesday afternoon and was most impressive. The order of the Eastern Star and the Woman’s Relief corps came in separate bodies. the exercies (sic) were conducted by Rev. B. F. Crissman of St. Joseph, an old pastor and friend of Mrs. Fike and family. A special choir was organized for the occasion composed of Misses Harriet Newcomer and Edna McKee and Messrs. Harry Coleman and Stanley Demand. Prof. Abbott directed the musical program which was beautiful. Mrs. R. M. Robertson played Chopin’s funeral march as the procession entered the church, and later the congregation sang, "Rock of Ages." The floral pieces betokened the esteem in which Mrs. Fike was held by societies of which she was a member as well as by individuals. From the associates of Cap’t Fike in the U.S. Internal Revenue office at Kansas City came a sunburst canopy of ferns and pink carnations that covered the entire casket. Hardly less striking were the pieces sent by the Eastern Star, the Woman’s Relief corps, the Ladies Aid Society and the Epworth League. The procession moved out of the church to the strains of Beethovens funeral march. The pall bearers were citizens with whom Cap’t. Fike has been closely associated for many years and were Wm. E. Crissey, A. M., Geer, G. A. Lobban, Prof. W. F. Bahlmann, Isaac Markward and J. A. Drummond. At the cemetery the Order of the Eastern Star took charge of the burial service.
