Ethan Allen Cook was the son of Hence Marvin Cook and Eleanor "Nellie" McCall. On March 3, 1858 he married Artemesia "Arta" Marie Wood, daughter of James Wood and Eleanor "Nellie" Phillips. He served in Co. G of the 62nd NC Inf. CSA as a corporal in the same regiment as his brother Solomon but survived the war. He along with about 400 to 600 other men escaped capture at Cumberland Gap and returned to Haywood county and joined the 16th Inf. to serve out the rest of the war. Ethan lived in the Caney Fork area of Jackson county. He died August 21, 1919 at age 81 and is buried at Rich Mt. Cemetery (also known as Balsam Grove Church Cemetery), Jackson County, NC.
