WOLF CREEK CEMETERY
At the end of Vess Owens road off of
NC 218 beside Wolf Lake Reservoir in southern Jackson County, NC

Wolf Creek Cemetery was located on a knoll above the Wolf Creek Church in Jackson County, NC. During World War II in order to provide electrical power to the war effort, several TVA projects were built to harness the natural power of the waterfalls of Western NC and Eastern Tennessee. Wolf Creek Church and School was located at the top of one of these falls and the little valley where the church stood was flooded to form one of the five or six lakes in the Tuckaseegee River Basin. In so doing, the church was covered and the congregation moved to the Wolf Mountain Church about 3 miles to the north.

Mr. Owens who owned most of the land in the valley agreed to sell to the government only if the cemetery was not covered with water. So that is how it came to be that the cemetery is on a peninsula of land jutting into the lake and that the "new" road to the cemetery follows the shore line of the lake.

Directions: Take NC 218 from Tuckaseegee post office on NC 107 up the mountain to Sols Creek and then on to WOlf Mountain. After crossing the dam, turn left onto Vess Owens road and follow it along side the lake till it dead ends at the cemetery.
