Simon HOYT 1
Events in his life were: • Arrival: "landed in Salem in 1628 or 1629, perhaps by the Abigail or the George". 3 • In 1629 he lived in Charlestown, Massachusetts, USA. 3 • In 1633 he lived in Dorchester, Massechutsetts. 3 • On 19 Apr 1635 he lived in Scituate, Mass. 3 "From Dorchester he undoubtedly removed to Scituate, Mass., probably early in April, 1635, as "Symeon Hayte" and his wife joined the Scituate church April 19, 1635, and "Goodman Haites" house was built in that town between Sep., 1634, and Oct., 1636." • In 1640 he lived in Windsor, Connecticut, USA. 4 "The earliest mention of his name that we have found on the Windsor records is the following entry on the first book of land records:- • He owned Hoyts Meadow, Windsor, Connecticut about 1640 in Windsor, Connecticut, USA. 4 "...the land of Simon Hoyt lay on the east side of the rivulet, away from the other settlers; and this is probably the reason that he and his family were "freed from watch and ward" [Watch and ward refer to guard duty, the former at night and the latter in the day time] in 1640, they having enough to do to protect themselves from Indians, without traveling a long distance to guard those who lived in the village. The name Hoyt's Meadow seems to have been then applied to this portion of Windsor, and that name is still retained." Simon married Unknown. |
