CHESHIRE, STOCKPORT 1871 Census

1871 census of William Mountany in Warren St, Stockport.
From Stockport Library
William, Mary and daughter Jane Mountany are the only family members listed at
18 Warren st, Stockport.
William Mountany listed as 61 years.
Occupation- Factory labourer Night Watchman.
Where born - on the sea in the ?driery(very hard to read this.)
Mary Mountany listed as 58 years.
Occupation -Cotton throstle spinner
Born - Derbyshire, Obnaston. This is the same as the 1851 census.
Daughter Jane Mountany is 14 years
Occupation - Cotton Reeler.
Born - Stockport, Cheshire.

So William born on the sea at ? driery.

It is the only word on the whole page that the Enumerator has made a mistake with and gone over letters again to try and correct. The first letter looks like a "d" but I think he has corrected this and made it into a large a but not a capital just enlarged "a" small "a" so the top of the "d" is still visible. So I think the word is Army. William Mountany born on the sea in the Army.

[The 1851 census [Stockport Library] where in my transcript I gave the place of birth of William as High Leas; should therefore probably be High Seas -SM]
