According to legend, Nancy Henderson (1812-1869), wife of George Coppenbarger,
came to Illinois with her father, Colonel Jack Henderson. He returned
to Kentucky, but she stayed and married George. Does anyone know
anything about Colonel Jack, and exactly why he was a "colonel"?

The town of Kenney, Illinois is where most of the early Coppenbargers
settled, and several of their descendents remain there today. During
World War II, Kenney was named the first "Victory Town" in the country
and featured in Life Magazine. Does anyone have further information
or perhaps the date of that issue of Life? |

According to the folks on the Snavely
message board of Genforum, the original spelling of Snavely was "Schneebeli",
and it still exists near Zurich, Switzerland. "Schnee" translates
to "snow" and the name itself means "snow bells" or maybe "snow balls".
Also, the Schnebli
coat of arms features three snowballs. Are the Schnebli lines
and the Snavely lines the same? Can anyone confirm this? |
According to the Newton
County, Missouri Genweb page, there is a Coppenbarger Cemetery located
in Newton County. Can anyone provide some more information on this?
Solved!
The Decatur School District once had a Coppenbarger
School, named for Ida B. Coppenbarger, which was closed and sold in
1997. It was located at 1500 E Condit Street in Decatur, Illinois.
If anyone knows the history of this school, or has any scanned photos,
