Barfod, in his stories of the Scanian nobility tells the following story of the death of Fredrik: ...but in the middle of these for him unusual exersices of war he got the urge to visit his loving mother at Klågerup which is located not far from the camp site. He wished to use the free time of the approaching Sunday for that purpose and had for the promotion of his expedious return ordered the necessary horses in the appropriate places. Subsequently he accompanied his mother and his sisters to the parish church at Hyby where they heard the skilful reverend Svanander preach regarding the saying of prayers resulting from the evangelical text of prayer-Sunday. It was not unusual to see the young family express much faith as they were raised in christianity and still too young to have been seduced by time. What was more unusual was that the reverend according to the custom of the country held, after the preaching, a eulogy over a man who had died leaving several little children, causing the young soldier and the ladies to be so moved that they burst into tears at the text from the book of Ruth: 'I have let you pass with tears, but the Lord shall give you back to me again with joy everlasting.'
The young sir, who had intended to return to camp straight from church was however convinced to join the family at Torup to there take dinner with baron Stiernblad and several of the local Lords. After the meal the party retired to the garden, which on one side was enclosed by a little lake on which was constructed the castle yard raised on poles. Tempted by the nice weather, as it was the 27th of May, the youths entertained themselves in the greenery which made this naturally beautiful place so pleasant, yet pleasure is often followed by sorrow and a fatal log of oak occasioned the young soldier to suggest a small trip on the water. He acted hastily as did his elder sister Brita Sofia and his aunt damoiselle Margareta Fredrika Harmens, and when the younger sister Sofia did not want to join them he carried her thence without noticing that the vessel was so overloaded that the ladies cuffs were dragging on the water right at the outset. They had not gone more than 50 yeards from shore when the rear of the log where they were sitting began to sink and the soldier, who was terrified by the screams of the ladies, left his post at the front from where he rowed to give them a hand. But this action completed the accident as the boat was thrown upside down and all four fell in the water. At their shouts the entire party and all the servants gathered on the beach. The sight was horrifying as the unfortunates were struggling against death and the sisters stretched their arms towards the brother who shouted for help from those present who were just as shocked as helpless. Some quick-minded servants threw themselves in a similar log of oak but had almost had to pay the same price for their help. Just as vainly they tried to rescue the victims in a large tub, but still they died in front of almost 100 persons and in such shallow water that they were hardly covered by it as the remaining depth consisted of mud. The most terrifying of it all was that the mother saw the accident and the most curious that she did not die of horror...
