Notes for LAURA MAY SKAGGS:

Laura May Skaggs was 16 years old when she married Byron Barton. Her mother, Harriet Caperton Woolwine, signed the papers for her early marriage. The 1900 census lists Laura as a dressmaker. In 1903 she moved to St. Louis. They were divorced about 1907. Byron married Emila Peters in 1908 and had Virginia Barton and Byron N. Barton. Emila died young and Byron soon after. Laura May then took care of Virginia and Byron until Virginia "Ginny" was old enough to leave and take Byron with her. Laura May lived in St. James for a while, married Mr. Charlie Bruer and lived in Chaffee until Mr. Bruer died. Then she went to live with her daughter Frances Williard Barton Akley, until her death.

Laura May lived in St. James for a while and married Mr. Charlie Bruer and lived in Chaffee until Mr. Bruer died, then she went to live out her years with her daughter Frances Willard Barton.

Clyde was an electronic genius and was building radios before they were known as radios. He had a storefront in downtown St. Louis for a time. He also lived in Venice, Illinois and had a commercial fisherman's license. He also dealt cards at the local gambling establishments in Venice. He married Mary Louise Adams July 12, 1918, two days before he left to go overseas in WWI. They had three children.
