In the name of God Amen, I Clement Cox
aforesaid being of sound and disposing mind and memory, but weak in body, and
calling to mind the uncertainty of life, and being desirous to dispose of all
worldly Estate as it hath pleased God to bless me with do make and ordain this
my last will and testament, in manner and form following, that is to say-
1st I
desire that my executors hereinafter mentioned shall pay all my just debts and
funeral expenses.
2nd.I
give and bequeath to my beloved Son Henry Cox the following negro slaves, To
wit: Old Peter, Young Peter, Sham, Moses, John, George, Charlotte, Ellen and
her two children, Sarah and Charles, Maria & Emma, To have and to hold the
aforesaid slaves together with the future issue and increase of the female
slaves thereof unto my said Son Henry Cox, his heirs and asfigns forever,-
3rd. I give and bequeath to my Son Madison Cox
the following negro slaves To wit: Harry, Patty, Cernen, Bill, Joe, Phillis,
John, Beck, Matilda, Eady and Mary-To have and to hold the aforesaid slaves
together with the future issue and increase of the female slaves thereof unto my
said Son Madison Cox, his heirs and asfigns forever-
4th. I desire and so will it that my executors
within a reasonable time after my decease do pay over to my beloved daughter
Caroline Glover the sum of twenty Dollars to insure to her and her heirs
forever-
5th. I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint
Madison Cox and Henry Cox, Executors of this my last will and testament.
In testimony thereof I have hereunto
set my hand and seal this the 18th day of June A.D. 1847-
