Remarkable Casualties
At Rockville Centre last week Mrs. A.E. Cozine sustained a shock, through the
fall of an elevator, so severe that at first her life was despaired of.
Mrs. Cozine has been so badly crippled that she has been unable to stand on
her feet for several years. She resides with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr &
Mrs Simon Steiner. An elevator was put in Mr. Steiner's new house for carrying
Mrs. Cozine to the upper floor. A few nights since the invalid's chair was wheeled
into the elevator as usual, and she was hoisted to the upper floor. The car had
just reached there when the rope came unfastened overhead and the elevator
descended with terrific speed and force to the first floor. The fall was about
eleven feet, and as Mrs. Cozine was sitting down and helpless she sustained a
particularly severe shock. At first is was feared she would die, but she is improving
and hopes are felt that no serious results will follow.

C. L. Cozine's Death
Tax Department Employe Seized with a Stroke of Paralysis while Attending a Furnace
Charles L. Cozine, who for about twenty years was employed in the tax office of this borough, died at 1:30 o'clock yesterday afternoon from the result of a stroke of paralysis. Mr. Cozine attended to his duties in the office up to Friday and was apparently enjoying the best of health. He returned home at his accustomed hour after business, and about 6:30 o'clock went to the cellar of his home, on Bay Twenty-ninth street, Bensonhurst, to attend to the furnace. When he did not return in a reasonable time his wife went to the cellar to see what delayed him. She found Mr. Cozine lying on the floor, unconscious. He was carried to the upper part of the house and a physician was sent for. The latter said that Mr. Cozine was suffering from a paralytic stroke. He never regained consciousness up to the time of his death.
Mr. Cozine was born in this borough fifty-eight years ago. He was a veteran of the late war and was a member of the Grand Army of the Republic. He had a large circle of friends. He leaves a widow, but no children. The funeral services will be held on Monday evening, at which the Rev. Dr. Farrar of the First Reform Church will officiate.
