PATTERSON, Myra Veda (Sexton) (Cozine)
In Sacramento on June 27, 2008, at age 97. She had resided in Sacramento for more that 64 years. She traveled from her home state of Mississippi with her three children in 1944 to join her first husband Cal Cozine, who was a civil engineer building air fields for the war effort. Veda went to work for the California Division of Highways (Cal Trans) in 1948 and retired after 25 years of service at the headquarters office. She was fondly called "Dixie" by her colleagues. She took piano lessons from the age of ten and enjoyed playing well into her 90s. She also enjoyed taking junket trips for Senior's to Nevada and travel to visit family. She loved doing the daily crossword puzzles in the newspaper. She always inspired her children to do their best and never gave a discouraging word or made a complaint about her circumstances, thus being the example to follow.
She was the wife of the late Cal Cozine and Ben Patterson, the mother of William (Joann) Cozine and Carolyn (Cozine) Sallis of Sacramento and James (Hiroko) Cozine of Las Vegas, Nev., grandmother of Susan (Tim) Adams, Jill Kocalis, Christine (Eric) Snitzel, and Darin (Kristine) Cozine, great-grandmother of Miranda and Sabrina Cozine and Clayton Brandt, and sister of Frances S.
