I am just starting out tracing family roots. Our name is spelled CrabtreY, but found out that this was just a spelling problem by the cencus taker many many years ago. Wonder if you could help point me the way to finding which branch of the Crabtree tree I need to write to. My grandfather, Jody Crabtrey from Arkansas, married Elsie Minor. They had one child, my father Gerald Elby Crabtrey in 1921.

My husband's gg grandmother is Sarah Elizabeth Crabtree born in 1852 in Linn county Iowa. Her parents were Thomas Crabtree and Mary J. according to 1850 Linn county census records, pg. 100. Both parents were born in Pennsylvania according to the census. Sarah had 3 brothers and sisters in 1850. They were Robert W. born 1845, Thomas B. born 1848, and Jane F. born 1850--all according to the same census. Sarah later married John Howell White in California and settled and died in Adelaide, San Luis Obispo, California. We have not been able to go further back on either the Crabtree or White lines. The family story is that these Crabtrees were related to Lotta Crabtree (actress in San Francisco), but we have no real evidence of this.

website who is also a Crabtree descendent. I would appreciate any help
you can give me toward hunting which Benjamin Franklin Crabtrey is the
correct one. There seem to be several, or the dates of birth are really
way off, don't know which as I am just now getting into the research.
Appreciate any help and especially your posting it to the Crabtrey-L
discussion group, I am about to subscribe to it. Keep in touch, Thanks,

Hi,
I found out a good bit of info from my middle brother. He went to
California a few months ago and got a good bit of info from my Dad's
double first cousin who is dying of bone cancer (Herman Crabtrey) He
says he has researched the CrabtreY family and that we are all kin to
the CrabtreE's, and always have been. Our Grandfather's grandfather was
Benjamin Franklin Crabtrey. The homeplace was Economy , Arkansas and he
had 5 kids (1)Jodie(my grandfather) (2)George Sherman Crabtrey(who lived
in Russellville,Ark & died there about ?20 yrs ago,& was married to Eve
Elizabeth Minor. (3) Nora Lee (4) Elzie (5)Ora. Benjamin Franklin
Crabtrey had a brother named Lewis and their father was Sherman
Crabtrey. Crabtreys still live at the home place in Economy, Ark.. My
grandfather Jodie Crabtrey married my grandmother Elsie Minor in Adkins,
Ark in 1917 by a Rev. Johnson, witnessed by Dorothy Minor and Henry
Minor.(THis came from their bible which my brother has) I had no idea
that he had this information, but he just got it a few months ago when
he visited our sick cousin Herman Crabtrey in California. He also has
two living brothers , George Herald Crabtrey in Rialto, Cal, and Joseph
Sherman Crabtrey in Dayton, Ohio. and one sister(deceased), Mary Ellen
Crabtrey Hartwick who had the homeplace, her kids live there now. Any
help you could offer in pointing me in the right direction would be
helpful. I have found several different ? Benjamin Franklin Crabtree's
on some websites and will continue to search for the correct one. Thanks
for your help, Jerrilyn Crabtrey Pate
