ELIJAH LAUGHTON CURLEE

   Elijah Laughton Curlee, was born 11-25-1884 in Talladega County, Alabama. He was the son 
of Charles Pinckney and Mary Horn Curlee. He had 2 brothers, Cleveland and Sy and one sister, 
Zinna. He spent his early childhood there in Horn Valley. He and his family belonged to what 
is now the Horn Valley Memorial Baptist Church. They later moved to McFall, now Eastaboga, 
Alabama, still in Talladega County. He attended the University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn 
and graduated in 1903 with a medical degree. He spent his internship at Hillman Hospital in 
Birmingham, Al. He married Alma Dickert, they had one child who died at birth. Alma died in 
childbirth with their second child who also died.  He then married Lillie Pearl Harrison 
(my grandmother). They had 3 sons, Edward, Eugene,and Hoyt. And a daughter, Hazel. In 1939, 
at the age of 55 he died of a heart attack.
