Obituary of George Washington Elrod G.W. Elrod, b. Montgomery Co. Indiana, November 22, 1842, and died at his son, Charles Elrod's in Bucyrus, Kansas, Sunday, October 26, 1924. His death was sudden, as he was in his usual health, eating a hearty supper, and sitting up unusually late on Saturday evening. He would have been 82 on Nov 22nd. In 1866 he married Elizabeth Rank, in Montgomery Co. date 1864. They lived in Indiana until 1884 when they moved to the Antioch neighborhood (Kansas) s.w. of Spring Hill, Kansas, which was their home until 1921, when they moved to Bucyrus. With his wife they lived with their son Charles and wife, who faithfully and tenderly cared for their aged parents. Mr. Elrod served in the 135th Indiana Regiment during the Civil War. In 1868 he and his wife joined the United Brethern Church and always members of that church. To this union was born 7 children 5 boys and 2 girls. One daughter Martha Emma, d. 1909; W.F. Elrod, Thayer, J.A. Elrod & M.R. Elrod of Bucyrus, and J.E. Elrod, Kansas City, Mo. 28 grandchildren and 14 gt. grandchildren. Funeral on Monday at 1:00 by Rev. W.H. Smith in Antioch Church; burial in Antioch Cemetery. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
