MARRIAGE: Saline Co. AR 18 Sep 1852. He was 22, she was 18.
HISTORY:
Spouse Margaret 'Jane Russell gave away 1 of twins: William Ambrose Elrod to her
parents William & Jane Russell to raise.
When triplets arrived, 1 was stillborn, gave 1, Jenny, to her brother to raise!
When another set of twins arrived, she said "God had punished her" so she would
raise these.
DEATH: Per grandson George Meeks Elrod; Joel died when he was 2-3 years old, while he
was sitting on his lap, in their home at Mt. Carmel, AR.
MARGARET JANE RUSSELL:
Per grandson Meeks Elrod he attended Mt. Carmel School at time of tornado, 1909. The
cemetery was next to the home where his grandmother Jane was killed.
DEATH: Killed in her home during tornado, 09 March 1909; wall of home fell onto her
and other family members and friends. Two grandsons, Meeks and George Elrod,
were thrown through a window and into well!

HISTORY: Gave land with husband Joel Elrod for Mt. Carmel Methodist Episcopal Church,
School and Cemetery, 1885.
