WINN OBITS
When I revisited Scotland and Schuyler Counties in Missouri this past Sept. 1999 we found Bridge Creek Cemetery in Schuyler Co. I was looking for March stones, and happened to snap two photos of Winn stones, in case they were related to our Mrs. Hannah Winn b.24 Aug 1802 d.29 Feb 1872 that married William March 16 Jan 1833 in Boone Co MO. William and Hannah are both buried in Lebanon Bible Grove Christian Church Cemetery in Scotland Co, actually just a few miles from the Bridge Creek Cemetery. It is believed that Hannah was a widow, and she had a daughter also named Hannah Winn b01 Jun 1823. I recently received emails from Marian Winn, and lo and behold, she was looking for Francis Marion Winn, one of the very ones I had taken a photo of. She has sent in some Winn obits. If you are researching the Winn family in or around Scotland and Schuyler Co.'s in MO. Please contact us.

Francis Marion Winn
He was born about 1848 in Macon, Mo. and died at the age of 53 in Downing, Mo. He married Amanda Alice Minium on 2 May 1880 in Schuyler County. 13 children in this marriage. I feel (this is from Uncle Ed) that he is buried in the Coffey Cemetery where many of the Winns were buried. (NOTE: Francis Marion Winn is buried at Bridge Creek Cemetery) Christian church? newspaper clipping (which it the obit I sent you) states that Amanda and her companion (Francis?) united w/the Bridge Creek church? Then she moved to the Coffey church. I have heard Anabel mentioned in the family, this is a few miles east of Macon. Could this have been where Francis' folks lived when he was born. That was from Uncle Ed's notes. Since then I have found Francis Marion Winn in the census reports. And I found that in 1880 he is listed as Marion Winn living in Schuyler county, township of Independence. He was on roll 736 T-9. This census was taken 1 June 1880. It lists him on page 1, along w/Amanda, George, Jesse, and Lizzie. In the next dwelling there is another Winn. I could not make out the writing of the first name. Maybe you will have better luck at that. The middle initial is J and the male is 21. He is married to Anna who is also 21. Maybe this is a brother of Marion Winn. Now, I know that Marion and Amanda were married in 1880 in May, so when this census was taken, they had only been married about a month. I have another piece of paper that someone else in the family must have done and that lists George as born in 1870, Jesse in 1872 and Lizzie in 1875. It also says that they are Amanda's step children and lists a daughter of hers as Tinsie Parker. I do not know if this is Ms Parker's married or maiden name. On the 1860 census, I found Francis listed as Francis M. Same town and county. Francis is 13 here, which is about right, and he is listed under the head of the household of Thomas Winn. Thomas' wife is Nancy. Thomas is 50 and Nancy is 51 in this report. They have Adline 21, Suzanna 19, Mary J. 14, FRANCIS M 13, Margaret E. 8, and then Bunilla Winn 23, S.S. Winn 29, and Sarah O. 16 living w/them. I have no idea who these last three folks are. From the ages, I was thinking maybe they were Thomas' brother or an older child. This was taken from p 181. The township listed is Ten Mile Township. Post office is Laporte. I couldn't find this on a map so maybe you could shed some light on it. These people are all listed as having been born in Mo. Except for Thomas who is listed born in Ky, and Nancy was born in Ohio. The next census that I found them on was 1850. I could not find them anywhere in 1870. I may have missed them. At any rate: in 1850 they are listed as in District 52. I do not know what that means. It was on roll 405 p 149. On this one I have a Thomas Winn Sr listed in dwelling #139 a Thomas Winn in dwelling #140, and a Squire Winn living in dwelling #138, so they were all next to each other and that seemed to be like a little family enclave. Under Thomas Winn Sr. who is 42 is a Fanny Winn 42, then Squire S 19, John J, 17, Sarah A 15, James B. 13, Adelaine 11, Suzannah 9, Harrison A 7, Mary or Meary 5, And a Thomas M. 2. (since everything else meshes up, I thought this was Francis Marion. He seems to have gone by several names depending on who was reporting him when) In the Thomas Winn age 77 household there is a Burnell 18 listed and a name I can't really make out look like Lagnuil p. Brown age 21. Thomas has no occupation but Brown guy is listed as a farmer This Thomas was born in Virginia and Burnell and Brown in Kentucky Squire Winn is listed as being 43 yr old farmer born Kentucky. Under him is a Lucy 39, James 19, Thomas 19, John17, ? UZ (male) 15, Sarah 12, George 10, Lucy 8, Elizabeth 5, Alonzo 2 and then a Marian WIllis 21. Have no idea who he is. He is listed as a farmer born in Kentucky. The children are all born in Mo. Squire and Lucy are born in Kentucky. I think that Thomas Winn is the father of Thomas Winn Sr, and Squire Winn. Uncle Ed thinks he must have died before the next census was taken. He is 77 in this one already so it seems possible. We think that Francis Marion Winn's mother was Fanny and that Nancy was the mother of the rest of the children after Margaret. As for George Winn who is Marion's half brother, he was obviously in the 21st Infantry as per his headstone. I came up w/3 George Winns who were soldiers from Mo. The picture of the headstone confirmed which one my George was, and now I know that he was a Union Soldier w/B co, 21st Mo Infantry.
