Abraham Taylor's Y-DNA

The following is the Y-DNA haplotype as established by STR testing for direct male descendants of a certain Abraham Taylor whose sons went from Baltimore County, Maryland to Craven County, North Carolina in 1729. The Abraham Taylor who went to Craven in 1729 died in 1751, but he passed his Y-DNA down to still-living descendants.

The results may also be said to describe the haplotype of that Abraham's father & grandfather (also named Abraham) who immigrated to Virginia from Cheshire, England in 1654.

Note: By disclosing here the modal Y-DNA values we are not disclosing the information for any specific person. Individuals may vary from these values.

* A "data point" is a result for a particular marker. The numbers of data points per marker differ because not all markers were tested for all participants.

Mode:

The mode is a statistical measure of central tendency, the most frequent value in a group; it is neither the mean (average) nor median (halfway between high & low). A modal value is suspect as a central tendency measure under the following conditions:

Notes:

  1. While there is some overlap between  the markers tested by Sorenson Genomics for Ancestry DNA & by FTDNA, there are also differences which render a direct comparison difficult.  To see the results for one individual who has publicly disclosed his results, see here.

  2. Do not bother contacting the author if you match only on the first 12 markers (#s 1-12, left column). This indicates a low level of confidence that any common male ancestor could be less than 30 generations in the past (~750 years), when surnames were in common use. To be reasonably sure the match is not a "false positive", you will need a perfect match on the first 12 plus at least a 11 of 13 match on the following 13 (#s 13-25, middle column).

  3. If you do match on at least 23 of 25 markers & wish to discuss it, contact the author at the e-mail address below
