  Distribution in the UK according to the 1881 Census

Each county of the 1881 Census Index for England, Wales and Scotland together with the additional locations of Guernsey, Jersey, Isle of Man, Royal Navy and Miscellaneous (a total of 90) has been checked and those listed below are the only counties where the two surnames were found in 1881. Those Counties not listed did not have any Crippens or Crippins recorded as living there.
The results are consistent with other research, however it is interesting to note that all other variants seem to have disappeared by this date.
