He signed a will on 2 Jan 1787 in Monmouth Co., NJ. ⁽⁵⁴⁾ Will cited in full, along with inventory He had an estate probated on 23 Mar 1787 in Monmouth Co., NJ. ^(53)(55) Possible ancestry of John is given in "Descendents of John Stephens ..." He was married to Lucretia GASKILL in 1760 in Burlington, Burlington, NJ. ^(53)(55)

89. Lucretia GASKILL ⁽⁵³⁾ was born in 1743 in Burlington, Burlington, NJ. She Disowned by family/church on 5 Sep 1765 in New Jersey.^{(53) (56)} Lucretia was disowned by the Quakers for marrying outside the Quaker Church and for not returning "to the religion of their parents within five years," thereby being "disowned by their parents and the church." She died on 22 Aug 1785 in Freehold, Monmouth, NJ.⁽⁵³⁾ appears to have been married to a Mr. Chetfield before marrying John Children were:

v. Mary STEPHENS was born in 1767.
vi. Thomas STEPHENS was born in 1771. He was buried in New Jersey.
vii. James STEPHENS was born in 1773. He was christened about 1796 in Greene Cty, Pa.. He died in 1861 in Monongalia, WVa.
viii. Apollo STEPHENS was born in 1775.
ix. John STEPHENS was born in 1777.
