My
Mills History
|
Gladys (Smith) Mills had told the family for many years that she
was a Mayflower descendant, however, she never showed us the family the
documentation. Though my research I have finally found that she was a
descendant to Degory Priest. See the Mayflower Descendants page
that reflects her mother, Ellen Severance Smith as a descendant to
Degory Priest.
The
picture on the left is of my great grandparents Bert and Gladys
(Smith) Mills. The picture was taken in 1909. Gladys (Smith) Mills
lived just one month short of celebrating her hundredth birthday.
Bert and Gladys (Smith) Mills' daughter was Esther Mills
who first married John Author Barnes and then she later married
Karl Douglas.
My Genealogy Data has many related lines to my Mills ancestors, the main
lines that I'm researching are: Smith, Severance, Densmore
& Fowler of Vermont. |
Bert Adin Mills was born 1874 and raised in Stowe, VT. He married Gladys
Smith in 1909. They lived in Essex Junction, VT and had
two children born
there. In in the 1920s they moved to Los Angeles, CA and they
had one more child.
Bert's dad was
William Mills who was born 1834 in Stanbridge, Quebec, Canada. He
moved to Underhill, Vermont about 1851. He
married Julia Davis of Enosburgh, Vermont. They lived in Stowe the
rest of their lives where. They had four children.
William Mills' dad was
also named
William Mills. He was born May 1800 in Tophsham, Vermont. He married Elizabeth
Hawkins daughter
James and Elizabeth Hawkins that were from England.
William and Elizabeth Mills lived in Ely
and Stanbridge during the time their children were born. William and
Elizabeth both
died in Andover, Vermont and were buried in Simonsville, Vermont.
William and Elizabeth had six
children that I'm aware of: Christiana b. 1825, Charles
b. 1841, William b. 1834, Jennie b. abt 1847, Leonard Moses
b. 1848, and Lyman Albert b. 1851. There was probably more
children that I'm not aware of.
Sources: All of the
Mills data above can either be found in the census, Vermont Vital
Records or Anglican Church baptism records.
