Lilly and Lilley Records
In Kentucky

Kentucky Records.

One of the problems with Kentucky is that the boundaries changed constantly. This is my favorite site to help with that. https://www.mapofus.org/kentucky/
If you click on the actual county on the list, it will tell you how to research the county.  It also lists lost records. For example, there are Lillies in Estill Co, KY but most early land and marriage records there were lost in an 1864 fire.  Many members of this family moved to Kentucky. This site also has a similar page for Virgina.

1790 Fed Census of KY index shows no Lilly any variation. The census did not survive so this is actually tax lists.

1795 Ky Census index shows:   Again this is actually tax lists.

1850 Census of Kentucky
Note that this William Lilly in Hardin County, Kentucky was born in NC.

1850 Hardin County, Kentucky William Lilly 35 NC; Phoebe 24 KY; Minerva 4 KY; Lafayette 2m KY
Kentucky marriages on Ancestry: William Lilly married 9 Aug 1842, Hardin County, Kentucky, Phebe Wilson. (LDS microfilm Number 390788)
This family has me very confused. By 1860 Phebe appears without her husband but with children. But in 1880 there is a William Lilly born NC, father born NC, mother born VA, living in Hardin County, KY, aged 70.
[Note from June: I have no idea about this family. The NC records are very spotty so I cannot even guess at Williams parents. But I do wonder if this census is accurate. His marriage record and this census record are the only two records he left. His daughter, Minerva, married a Jacob K. Sigward. In their 1880 census, she says her father was born in Virginia. The ages of the individuals in the 1850 census do not agree with other years. In 1860, Minerva is 17, and Layfayette is 14.   In the 1880 census Lafayette was living with his sister, and is marked as cannot read or write and is insane which usually meant, mentally handicapped. In those days, a fever could easily cause damage a child.
His father died in 1855 so there may have been some sickness. So the 1850 information could have come from a neighbor. I would like to hear from a descendant. Or the 1880 William could be the same one as in the 1850 census. In that case the age was different.]

Is this a son of Gabriel Lilly, of Amherst County, Virginia?
1850 Henderson County, KY: Sarah M Lilly 49 NC; Gabriel Lilly 24 KY; John Lilly 21; James Lilly 17; Sarah Lilly 13 Judith Lilly 10 [Note: Gabriel is probably the descendant of the Amherst County, Virginia Lilly family.]

Kansas from Kentucky
Benjamin Franklin “B. F.” Lilly was born about 1821 in Kentucky. But the earliest records of him are in Kansas starting in 1855.
See B.F. Lilly.
