William Lilly of Gloucester County
Died 1781
Married Lucy Wynne

The date of birth for William Lilly is unknown. We know he was the son of John Lilly IV because of the 1751 will of Richard Billups. His first known child was born ca. 1755, so I would guess he was born sometime around 1725-1730. This is strictly a guess.  He was the oldest son of John Lilly IV because he appears to have inherited the estate before the law of Primogeniture was repealled. His estate records suggest he died ca. 1781 in Gloucester County, Virginia.

Marriage of William Lilly

According to this, William Lilly married Lucy Wynne.
John Frederick Dorman, Adventurers of Purse and Person, 1607-1624/5, Volume 3, (Baltimore, Maryland: Genealogical Publishing Co., 2007), 810.
Peirsey Family.
Lucy Hill (Thomas, John, Mary Peirsey, Abraham) born about 1705, married (first) William Toplis as his second wife. She was granted administration of his estate, 20 July 1730, (York County Deeds, Orders, Wills Etc, 17m 1729-1732, p 77, 83-84), and as a widow, sold 100 acres at Essex Lodge and Miller's Plantation to Thomas Cary, Jr, 12-13 November 1730. (York County Deeds, Orders, Wills Etc, 4 p. 79-83) She married (Second) John Wynne of York County, who left a will 3 April 1772-17 August 1772.  (York County Deeds, Orders, Wills Etc, 22 1771-1783. p. 114-5)
Issue includes: Lucy Wynne was the daughter of John Wynne and Lucy Hill. She married William Lilly who died 1781 in Gloucester County.

No date for the marriage of William Lilly and Lucy Wynne is given. However, according to the church records, their first known child was born ca. 1755 so thay may have married ca. 1752-3.

Thomas Lilly on all three Gloucester lists: 498 1/2 acres
William Lilly on 1770 list.

[Note: Lucy was the widow of the William Lilly who was in the 1770 tax list. Hunley was probably holding the land for Thomas Lilly Junior who appears as an adult in 1791 in Mathews County. Since William died ca. 1781, he is probably the father of Thomas junior. There is another Thomas Lilly who owned 498 acres. I am not sure who this is. He appears to be older. I suspect he was a younger son of John Lilly IV.  If so, he is not mentioned in the 1751 Billups will so may have been a son of a second marriage.]

Edmund Lilly

For much more information on Edmund Lilly see
Edmund Lilly

John III is the only known Lilly who was of the right age to be Edmund's father.  However, I would not be surprised to find out that Edmund was the son of an unknown son of the John Lilly II who married Dorothy Wade, daughter of Armiger Wade.

Flippen/Flipping

Edmund Lilly was probably married to Ann Flippen/Flipping in Gloucester County although no record of this marriage has survived.
