Sybelia Antoinette Currie

Sybelia died at age 23 in New Orleans of "abscess of liver." She left a husband, John H. Riley, and two small sons. My guess is that her liver was destroyed by malaria, which everyone who lived on the steamy eastern bank of the Mississippi seems to have had. In the photo below, "Beelie," as she was known to her family, clearly was not well.
