Members of the Sanhedrin demanded the trial, partly because Antipater was disliked by them on account of his Ideumean blood and certain of his policies. Also the executions were very illegal, the Sanhedrin being the only body authorized to sentence anybody to death, and they had not done so. They were obviously angry at the usurpation of their prerogative. We do not know if he was acquitted or if the trial never happened.(7)
