The Church of St. Germanus, Parish of Maker with Rame
I hope that many of you will enjoy these images of the magical candle-lit carol service held at Rame Church. The Church was packed to standing on a foul night. The pathway to the door was lit by jury rigged lights and the night was broken by the generator chugging.
There is no mains power in Rame Church, it is as it once was, as it has always been and I hope as it will always be.The organ is hand pumped and the creak of the bellows provides a non-familiar musical accompaniment.
To me it is almost overwhelming to consider that the service we shared in has been done so many, many times before, that those attending this time are each in their own way making their own little part of history. We would have had Tudors, Elizabethans, Georgians, Victorians, Edwardians, ....think of all the different fashions, think of how they would have seen the world, how they would have lived, loved....and how will it be next year, ...in 10 years, 20, 50...100 years, 500 years.....the scale is too much for me, it just humbles me to insignificance.
I would like to thank my special friend Val for sharing this with me.
