John & Augusta Brown Headstone

John Brown, parents believe to be Lewis Lightner Brown and Julia A. Gause.
(Gussie) Thompson parents are William Thompson, mother unknown. That's what it states on her death certificate.

Lot number 157 for John Brown, Lot number 158 for Gussie Thompson.

Oda Brown Obit.

Oda Brown, adopted son of John Brown and Gussie Thompson. Evidence of this is the 1900 Thebes Pct. Alexander Co., IL. Census. On the census it list Oda Laton, as step son.

Gussie Thompson was never married before. Evidence of this is one page of the Civil War Application that John Brown submitted. This application can be seen on the Dale and Brown Photo Page Dale Brown Photos

Verlie Ray Brown, son of Oda Brown and Emma Snell.
Paul O. Brown, son of Oda Brown and Emma Snell.

Rose Hill Cemetery, Thebes, Alexander Co., IL.

According to the obit. In the obit it mentions a brother preceded him in death. This would be Paul O. Brown.
His headstone reads: Paul O. Brown 9 July 1915-16 January 1963, Illinois TECH5 Co. C, 1881 Engr. Avn. Bn. W.W.II.
The Cemetery book states his headstone is located right next to Oda and Emma Brown.

 


Betty L. Brown Gunnels

One of eight children, Betty was born March 8, 1939, in Hoquiam, Wash., to Bert and Gertrude Lawrence Brown. As a young girl she moved with her family to McClure, Ill., where she attended school and grew up.

She married John Gunnels in Walla Walla Dec. 27, 1955. They settled in M-F in 1956.

She worked for IGA in the bakery department and at local canneries during harvest time. The Gunnels family lived in Starkey, Ore., for a time and later returned to M-F. She was an avid bowler and played in different leagues throughout the area.

MILTON-FREEWATER - Betty L. Gunnels, 61, of 54171 Jorgensen Lane died Jan. 3, 2001, at Sacred Heart Medical Center, Spokane.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home, 902 S. Main St., Milton-Freewater.
The funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday 6 Jan 2001 at the funeral home. Private burial will be in Milton-Freewater Cemetery.

Hawk Dyer 14 January 1904 - 18 December 1919. Son of Samuel and Mary Dyer, this is the grandson of O. G. Ford mentioned in the obit.

 
William R. Dyer Father 1849 - 1932
Nancy Dyer Mother 1851 - 1929. These are the parents of Samuel Edmond Dyer.

 
Wade M. Dyer 23 November 1880 - 7 March 1969 Rest in Peace. Son of William R. and Nancy Dyer.

Merritt S. Sanders Jr. Obit.

Merritt S. Sanders, son of Merritt Smith Sanders and Mary D. Dyer.

 
This obit that was published in the Port Townsend Leader 25 October 1945, Port Townsend, Jefferson Co., WA is not entirely factual. Some of the issues are still cloudy. But we know this for a fact. Merritt was given a medical discharge as a result from losing a lung and died when he was in a Veterans Hospital in Memphis TN.
